The role is responsible for student discipline, behavior management, and crisis intervention, and involves collaborating with educators, parents, and administrators to ensure a safe and conducive learning atmosphere. The position includes implementing and enforcing school policies, mediating conflicts, and promoting a positive school culture. The Dean of Students will help implement a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework at the school. Responsibilities
Promote a positive and inclusive school culture
Implement programs and initiatives to enhance student engagement and morale
Enforce school rules and policies
Investigate and address incidents of student misconduct
Implement disciplinary measures when necessary, ensuring fairness and consistency
Collaborate with teachers and staff to develop and implement behavior management strategies
Implement behavioral interventions and conduct progress monitoring
Provide support and resources to teachers for managing classroom behavior
Conduct counseling or guidance sessions with students to address behavioral issues
Provide direct support to teachers in the implementation of the PBIS model
Mediates conflicts between students and, if necessary, involves parents or guardians
Work with teachers and administrators to address conflicts among staff members
Conduct behavioral screening of students to establish the three tiers of the Response to Intervention Discipline Model
Work closely with the Social Worker to ensure direct behavioral support for students in Tier three of the RTI model
Attend all training on the PBIS Model and conduct in-service training for school site staff on PBIS
Provide consultation to teachers on appropriate behavioral strategies for students demonstrating negative classroom behaviors
Generate reports involving academics, attendance, and discipline
Monitor student attendance and address chronic absenteeism with school staff
Analyze data from reports and present findings to administrators and faculty
Use platforms such as Power School, PLASCO, Microsoft Office Suite, or similar tools to track student performance and progress
Analyze data from discipline reports and make recommendations for interventions and accommodations to improve behavior outcomes
Participate as an active member of the PBIS team
Assist the administration in implementing Board Policies
Strive to maintain and improve professional competence
Assist in developing and implementing behavioral accommodations for students in class settings
Assist teachers in conducting Functional Behavioral Assessments and in developing Behavior Management Plans
Serve as a member of the Student Assistance Team (SAT) as needed
Stay updated on best practices in behavior management and discipline
Attend relevant workshops and conferences to enhance skills and knowledge
Performs other related duties as required
Educational Background
Bachelor’s degree required
Master’s degree in education, counseling, student affairs, or a related field preferred
Other Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience in implementing and providing behavioral interventions and direct support for students using a proven Positive Behavior Support Model
Excellent problem solving skills and ability to create action plans
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to establish and maintain constructive relationships with students, parents, and staff
Knowledge of educational policies, regulations, and best practices
Familiarity with crisis intervention procedures
Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive school culture
Compensation Base pay range:
$45,000.00/yr - $60,550.00/yr
