Radio-Telecommunications Technician

Overview
Installation, programming, repair, maintenance and modification of electronic and communications systems in one or more of several electronic disciplines comprised of radio communications equipment, vehicle technology, video surveillance, wireless network equipment, alarm and access control, and audio/video (A/V) systems.
Responsibilities
Coordinates with vendors to schedule system outages, perform system testing, repairs and maintenance and analyze equipment as needed
Works with vendors at locations across the City, both indoors and outdoors for installs, maintenance and repairs of City technology
Estimates time and materials required for proposed jobs; submits equipment orders, maintains records and submits reports for supplies and equipment
Installs and repairs mobile data technology including surveillance cameras, alarm systems, access control, and vehicle technology
Installs, repairs and maintains radio communications, public announcement (PA) and alerting systems equipment
Programs radios and performs duties associated with maintaining full operational readiness of communications systems
May test preemption traffic systems in Fire apparatus and intersections utilizing test equipment
Performs related work as required
Qualifications
Associates Degree in Electronics or a related field
One (1) to three (3) years of technical experience or a certification in a related field. Additional qualifying experience or completion of coursework at an accredited college or university in a job-related field, may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience or education.
Possess or be able to obtain a valid State of Florida driver’s license within 30 days of hire.

Special Requirements
If assigned to the Police Department, an in-depth employment background check will be conducted as part of the post offer onboarding process as this position is deemed security sensitive.

As public servants, employees may be required to work immediately before, during, and/or after an emergency. All employees must be available and able to work assigned shifts as determined by their Department Heads.
Physical Standards PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The position involves medium physical demands, such as exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Ability to lift, carry, climb, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, walk, push, pull, grasp, stand and/or access heights and areas where limited space is available.
