Job Description The Financial Crime Risk Senior Investigator conducts end-to-end investigations of complex, higher‑complexity and sensitivity cases. The role evaluates evidence from internal and external sources, applies analytical techniques, and recommends demarketing or freezing of accounts. The investigator also performs holistic reviews of client relationships, analyzes sanctions, anti‑bribery, anti‑corruption, and fraud risks, prepares suspicious activity reports (SARs), and ensures compliance with policies and regulatory requirements.

Depth & Scope

Investigates criminal cases ranging from simple to complex in nature

Sound knowledge of bank products, systems, policies and procedures

Proficient in criminal investigative techniques, evidence‑collection laws, court proceedings, and financial/trend analysis

Manages projects of low to moderate scope and complexity

Expert level professional requiring in‑depth knowledge/expertise in own specialty and related areas

Integrates broader organizational context into solutions

Understands industry, competition, and differentiators within the organization

Impacts functional programs across own and related teams

Interprets guidelines, standards, policies, and analysis outcomes to inform senior decision‑making

Builds stakeholder alignment for project leadership

Works independently as a senior technical lead and mentors others

Identifies and resolves complex issues at all levels

Education & Experience

Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience

5+ years of experience in financial crime or related investigative roles

Preferred Qualifications

2+ years conducting complex money‑laundering investigations in law enforcement or financial institutions

Experience writing and/or reviewing Suspicious Activity Reports

Knowledge of criminal investigative techniques

Knowledge of financial industry products, policies, and procedures

Self‑starter ability to research across internal and external systems

Customer Accountabilities

Conduct complex investigations (AML, sanctions/ABAC, and financial crime)

Collect, preserve, and analyze evidence using sound methodologies and staying current with technology threats

Prioritize files and apply proper investigative protocols in a timely manner

Collaborate with law enforcement, other financial institutions, and partners to share information and reduce risk exposure

Communicate procedural improvements to business units

Share industry trends and risk insights with stakeholders

Maintain partnerships with internal resources such as HR, Legal, and Employment Standards for investigative purposes

Apply digital evidence collection and analysis methodologies per investigative mandate

Shareholder Accountabilities

Lead workstreams as a project lead for large or complex initiatives using standard project management methodologies

Evaluate processes/services and recommend enhancements to increase effectiveness and efficiency

Recommend changes to escalation processes and provide stakeholder feedback

Plan and deliver cost‑effective process improvements

Conduct internal and external research projects and support presentations to management

Adhere to enterprise frameworks and methodologies aligned with business area goals

Monitor productivity and assess efficiencies within the function and implement improvements

Safeguard confidentiality and manage correspondence and communication with discretion

Protect organizational interests by managing risks and resolving high‑risk issues in a timely manner

Develop functional and enterprise analyses, draw conclusions, and provide recommendations

Stay current on emerging regulatory requirements and assess potential impacts

Maintain a risk‑management culture supported by effective processes aligned with risk appetite
