Job Description

This role is responsible for performing end‑to‑end investigations or investigation support functions of external financial crimes activities across one or more lines of business. It includes conducting routine to complex investigations, such as fraud committed by external parties, money laundering, or terrorist financing, and acting as the liaison to law enforcement as required. The investigator will complete investigations while ensuring cases meet or exceed closure and quality metrics, report facts to assist in identifying potential operational or compliance risks, and complete Suspicious Activity Reports (SAR) in a timely and accurate manner for submission to regulators and/or law enforcement. The role may report to any number of investigations teams across the consumer or client‑managed lines of business, and the investigator will maintain a working knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), USA PATRIOT Act, AML efforts, OFAC regulations and industry best practices.
Responsibilities
Complete investigations while ensuring cases meet or exceed closure and quality metrics.
Prepare and file Suspicious Activity Reports (SAR) in a timely and accurate manner for submission to regulators and/or law enforcement.
Report investigation facts to senior stakeholders, assist in identifying potential operational or compliance risks, and partner with Global Financial Crimes (GFC) Management and/or Front Line Units (FLU) to resolve investigations.
Perform quality control functions, training, communications, guidance, monitoring scenario development and enhancement input, and testing, or law enforcement liaison responsibilities in an investigative support role.
Manage a significant case inventory while prioritizing cases based on risk and/or management direction while adhering to department Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
Conduct research and analysis of transaction information, customer data, public records and social media platforms or other external tools to determine whether activity appears normal for the client type.
Communicate with GFC Management, front line units or other internal stakeholders, and law enforcement to obtain additional information and documentation as needed to resolve investigations.
Recommend appropriate follow‑up and possible account closure for customers that exceed the bank’s risk tolerance; identify and escalated potential operational or compliance risks.
Required Experience
3 years of experience with at least 1 year of relevant AML, risk, or compliance experience and knowledge of financial crimes typologies.
Knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) relative to AML.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis.
Desired Experience
Additional technical or functional experience in financial services or related government entities.
Certifications such as ACAMS – Association of Certified Anti‑Money Laundering Specialists.
FINRA licenses including the SIE or Series 7, Series 4, Series 24, and experience in law enforcement and/or interacting with law enforcement; bilingual skills in Spanish, Russian, Chinese/Mandarin, or Farsi are a plus.
