Account Manager – General Line

Location: Remote in Territory – Madison, WI

This role drives the Customer Center equipment sales and service activity for a specific territory, blending support for a major distributor and direct sales to customers. The successful candidate will quote, strategize, prospect, develop relationships, and achieve revenue and profit targets while maintaining customer loyalty and organizational goals.

Responsibilities

Generate revenue by selling equipment, service contracts, and offerings to end users and partners within a defined geographic area; develop existing customer base and secure new competitive accounts; design compressed air solutions; keep product knowledge current; execute continuous improvement strategies; achieve all assigned sales targets.

Develop people capabilities by providing selling skills and product/service training to dealer sales personnel and customer center staff; partner with services team to understand products and anticipate customer needs.

Manage cash by ensuring orders are error‑free, resolving disputes, and managing all associated costs including travel and entertainment.

Ensure adherence to safety rules (vehicle safety, customer site safety) in the field and at the customer center.

Earn customer loyalty by collaborating cross‑functionally and leveraging service support to troubleshoot issues or offer unique solutions.

Maintain Customer Relationship Management database, record order follow‑up activities, and track sales pipeline and daily reporting.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree

4+ years of experience in an industrial sales business setting

Core Competencies

Excellent relationship‑building and interpersonal skills, including verbal, written and presentation communication.

Establishes and builds solid relationships with customers, key institutions and team members.

Honest, self‑motivated and team oriented.

Able to work within a team environment and independently.

Mechanical and electrical expertise required.

Ability to assess customer needs, analyze data, perform basic equipment performance calculations, and recommend technical solutions.

Tech savvy; knowledge of Salesforce preferred.

Proven business and sales acumen, including prospecting accounts, navigating customer organizations, value selling, and winning competitive accounts.

Excellent prioritization and time management skills.

Preferences

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, business or equivalent.

Knowledge of Salesforce.

Travel & Work Arrangements / Requirements

Regional travel to customer sites required within assigned geographic territory.

Valid driver’s license for a minimum of 12 months with no major or frequent traffic violations, including no DUI in the previous 5 years, Hit & Run, license suspension, reckless or careless driving, or multiple small infractions in the previous 3 years.
