The Role The position interacts with customers professionally, reviewing and discussing service order requirements. This entry‑level role evaluates customers’ service needs, recommends additional services, and installs, repairs, and tests residential and small business telecommunication services and broadband products.
Location & Schedule Full‑time, Omaha, NE. Shift: 7:00 am – 7:00 pm. Overtime up to 8 hours/week. Weekends and holidays may be required.
The Main Responsibilities
Install, maintain, repair, remove, rearrange, program, test, and troubleshoot residential/small business products and services, including POTS, HSI, networking, and fiber from the cross‑connect into the customer’s premises.
Set up, reconfigure, maintain, and troubleshoot customer’s wireless/wired home network, including wireless modems, LAN peripherals, printers, IPTV, and other communication devices.
Complete various splicing connections on new and existing cable, fiber, and wire, attaching/detaching hardware to wires, cables, buildings, poles, and inside facilities.
Utilize hand tools, power tools, and specialty test equipment (e.g., VFL, ONX, OTDR) and laptops to install, repair, and confirm product/service functionality.
Read and interpret customer service orders, repair tickets, technical drawings, maps, blueprints, and diagrams, performing specified work.
Complete a designated amount of work in a specified timeframe with a high degree of quality, adjusting assignments or schedules to meet changing priorities.
Interact with customers professionally and courteously via telephone and on the premises, discussing service order requirements and evaluating customer needs.
Confirm and update trouble reports or service orders, review billing information, respond to questions about equipment and services, and verify installations and repairs.
Identify and explore additional revenue generation opportunities.
Work well with others to achieve common goals and foster a cooperative climate, while working independently in the field with little supervision.
Use laptops for email, ticket or circuit review, and running test routines.
Work with telecom color‑coded wires and cables, basic electricity related to telecommunications, and in varying weather conditions.
What We Look For In a Candidate
Ability to work varying shifts, hours, and mandatory overtime, weekends, and holidays.
Valid state driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
Ability to climb and work at elevations exceeding 18 feet and adhere to safety policy.
Ability to work in confined spaces (attics, crawl spaces).
Capacity to perform strenuous physical activities, lifting up to 75 pounds.
Ability to work outdoors in extreme cold, heat, and inclement weather.
High school diploma.
0 to 2 years of experience.
Compensation Pay Ranges:
Minimum hourly rate: $23.28, Maximum hourly rate: $34.92. Lumen offers a comprehensive package featuring health, life, voluntary lifestyle benefits and other perks.
Background Screening Selected candidates will undergo a background screen, which may include checks for criminal records, motor vehicle reports, and drug screening. Results are evaluated on a case‑by‑case basis. This position is part of a bargaining unit and may require union dues or participation.
