Effective, secure communication in the cyber domain is essential to the everyday operations of military intelligence in America’s Navy. Information Professionals who oversee the seamless operation of the global Naval network environment are key to these efforts.

About Information Professionals manage the Navy’s global network, ensuring its effectiveness and advancing the Information Dominance Corps mission.

Responsibilities

Map future network platforms and ensure effective use of Navy technologies.

Develop and deploy information systems, command and control, and space systems.

Lead naval network warfare missions and develop tactics to gain tactical, strategic, and business advantages afloat and ashore.

Drive interoperability with joint, allied, and coalition partners.

Build professional excellence through education, training, certification, and milestone qualifications.

Optimize organizational effectiveness through cutting‑edge technologies, knowledge‑management techniques, and a culture of innovation.

Oversee the work of Information Systems Technicians – Enlisted Sailors.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Serve aboard Battle Group staffs on ships at sea.

Work in C4I/Space/Surveillance on shore tours.

Serve on major Navy and joint staffs.

Command key communication and surveillance facilities worldwide.

TRAINING & ADVANCEMENT Information Professional Officers attend Officer Candidate School in Newport, R.I., followed by a five‑week IP Basic Course in Pensacola, Fla. They are required to complete specific qualifications, pursue advanced education, and may be promoted based on performance.

EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES Information Professionals can advance their education through:

Naval Postgraduate School and Navy War College.

Joint Professional Military Education at service colleges.

Master’s degrees in C4I, space, information systems, computer science, or modeling and simulation.

Graduate certificates, DoD certifications, federal executive fellowships, and information assurance scholarships and internships.

Qualifications & Requirements A four‑year degree is required, preferably in Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Operations, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or General Engineering.

All candidates must be U.S. citizens, willing to serve worldwide, eligible for a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance, and qualified for sea duty.
