Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and one year of full‑time professional accounting or auditing experience.
Graduation with 36 quarter hours in accounting and one year of full‑time professional accounting or auditing experience.
Graduate coursework credit in accounting may substitute for experience on a month‑for‑month basis, maximum one year.
Designated as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Overview Under general supervision, responsible for professional accounting work of average difficulty. This is the working level in the accounting sub‑series. The role may include training, leading, or supervising sub‑professional or less experienced professional accountants. It differs from Accountant 1* (entry level) and Accountant 3 (advanced). This is a hybrid position.
Responsibilities
Prepare financial activity reports for internal and external customers under supervisor direction.
Perform basic reconciliations of general ledger accounts, process basic accounts payable/receivable transactions, and basic accounting journal entries in electronic databases.
Monitor federal and third‑party grant and program funds for accurate fund results.
Review refund request documentation prior to and after submission for payment to ensure eligibility and proper allocation.
Analyze general ledger transactions and account documentation submitted by external customers to determine accurate expenditures.
Manage long‑term projects to ensure timely completion of milestones.
Resolve issues with external customers related to basic financial transactions and customer service complaints.
Address basic billing issues based on reporting and research.
Recommend account closure to supervisor based on departmental balance policies.
May train, lead, or supervise accounting personnel.
