Hours may vary based on operational needs. Job Type: Full Time. This is a 12-month live-in position responsible for the management of a residential community housing 250 to 1000 students. The Residence Director engages in operational, administrative, and programmatic initiatives for Student Living. Responsibilities include educational, managerial, and administrative functions to provide an environment supportive of the University’s mission and vision. This includes implementation of Student Living’s curriculum; supervising student leaders; crisis intervention; participation in on-call; resolution of violations of Student Living policies; implementing programs designed to assist students in transitioning to campus living; and other duties as assigned. This is a highly visible position with students and staff, providing day-to-day support to students, student employees, and multiple levels of staff. This position is critical to ensure that students living on campus have residential staff committed to their needs and development. Education and Experience

Masters degree in student personnel, higher education, or related field is preferred. Evening and weekend commitments are expected. Residence Directors must reside in their provided on-campus apartment. Candidates should have previous residence hall or student advising experience and have confirmed skills in mediation, crisis intervention, problem solving, and decision-making. Also required is demonstrated potential to supervise paraprofessional staff and experience in at least two of the following areas: counseling, advisement, programming, student development, housing operations, residence hall safety and security, public relations, or summer programs. Candidates with other relevant experiences, including degrees aligning with Learning Community concentrations, will be strongly considered. Skills and Knowledge

Knowledge of student development, counseling and/or event management. Excellent written and verbal communication. Strong ability to handle multiple priorities and work across many different constituencies. Support the development of a welcoming residence hall community and demonstrate cultural competency. Responsibilities

Utilizes a residential curriculum framework to foster student learning, development and engagement. Assists RAs in assessing needs of residents and developing floor programs. Advises student organizations, supported by theory and best practice. Advises students informally regarding personal, social, and academic problems, and when necessary, makes appropriate referrals. Mediates a range of student conflicts including roommate agreements and concerns. Develops an environment that encourages inclusive communities through dialogue and other educational means. Participates in the development and implementation of residentially based learning communities. Works with Learning Community staff to develop, implement, attend programs and meetings. Participates in departmental training and debriefings, including inclusion-focused discussions and activities. Trains, supervises, and participates in evaluation with 8-21 paraprofessional staff in the assigned area and possibly Residence Hall Operations Coordinator. Holds regular hall staff meetings and one-on-one meetings with Resident Advisors. Communicates students’ rights and responsibilities and assists in adjudicating code of conduct violations. Provides staff coverage, including emergency duty, during the year (hall openings, closings, university vacation days). Handles emergency situations using crisis intervention skills and resources. Serves in an on-call rotation with other Professional Staff for approximately 1,800-2,500 students. Ensures hall staff has operating knowledge of procedures, policies, and practices essential to the hall’s functioning. Manages hall/complex through weekly walkthroughs and coordinates with maintenance and custodial concerns. Manages the programming and operation budget for the hall and participates in area, department, and training meetings. Establishes a Residential Work Hours schedule appropriate for a student-facing, residential role. Schedules work hours that meet the needs of students living on and off-campus, including some evenings and weekends. Maintains a visible and active presence in their residence hall(s). Serves as a member or co-chair on departmental committees and may be assigned to summer academic programs and/or summer housing.
