East Liverpool’s medical staff is comprised of more than 160 physicians with an additional 21 resident physicians completing their training in Family Medicine and Internal Medicine. The hospital provides 24/7 emergency services, general surgery, medical stabilization for substance abuse, behavioral health for adults over the age of 55, and remains the ONLY cardiac rehabilitation program in Columbiana County. Responsibilities

As a Phlebotomy Technician I, you will primarily perform skin puncture or venipuncture on patients of all ages to obtain blood specimens for analysis in the clinical laboratory under the supervision of the Laboratory Director/Manager/Supervisor. Specific duties include:

  • Perform computer data entry, filing, telephone communication, and other clerical duties.
  • Possess adequate knowledge of the terminology of tests ordered in the laboratory.
  • Demonstrate good communication skills and telephone etiquette when greeting patients and visitors.
  • Demonstrate proper phlebotomy technique and the use of equipment for collecting specimens from newborns to geriatric patients.
  • Process microbiology, immunology, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry, and blood bank specimens.
  • Process specimens for referral to reference laboratories.
  • Stock routine supplies and maintain cleanliness of storage areas, trays, centrifuges, refrigerators, freezers, and work areas.
  • Process or load specimens on automated laboratory instrumentation in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Assist with sample pick‑up at hospital/OR, lab specialty sorting, pathology inventory, supply replenishment, mail pick‑up/delivery, faxing, answering phone calls, product deliveries, etc.
  • Perform other tasks or responsibilities assigned by the department manager or director.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • BLS certification within 45 days of hire and maintained current, required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical laboratory experience, preferred.
