Pay

Competitive hourly rate: $25.00 – $30.00 per hour.

About the Company

Ruston Paving is a commercial and industrial paving construction contractor capable of handling projects ranging from minor repairs to new construction, asphalt reclamation, and recycling.

General Summary of the Position

As a Heavy Equipment Operator you will safely operate equipment such as excavators, graders, bulldozers, backhoes, loaders, skid steers, asphalt pavers, rollers, reclaimers and milling machines. You’ll assist grading or paving crews and perform routine maintenance and safety tasks while adhering to company and legal standards.

Essential Functions

  • Operate construction or power equipment including excavators, graders, bulldozers, backhoes, front end loaders, skid steers, asphalt pavers, rollers, reclaimers, soil stabilizers, and milling machines.
  • Work with and assist grading or paving crews in removing or installing stone, dirt, asphalt pavement or storm water systems.
  • Operate jackhammers, saws and other small equipment as required.
  • Perform routine maintenance, report complex problems, and clean equipment.
  • Ensure equipment is safely stored and perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections.
  • Assist in the installation and maintenance of traffic control devices.
  • Follow all safety and security standards and incident reporting procedures.
  • Perform all duties in conformance with law, job site requirements and company policies.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Combination of education and work experience demonstrates required knowledge.
  • Minimum of 2 years of heavy equipment operator experience.
  • Site excavation and/or paving experience required.
  • Valid in‑state driver’s license or ability to obtain one.

Additional Requirements and Benefits

  • Shift starts and ends at the local division office; transportation to and from the job site is provided.
  • Clean uniforms and PPE are provided and required per company policy.
  • Projects may require overnight stays; per diem pay offered.
  • Double time pay for weekend work.
  • Employee may be assigned to other facility locations.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Regularly sit, use hands, reach, talk and hear; noise level generally loud.
  • Occasionally stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Occasionally lift or move up to 60 lbs.
  • Vision requirements include close and distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and focus adjustment.
  • Must move arms and legs quickly.
  • Excellent stamina and schedule adherence required.
  • Independent work; stress may arise with tight deadlines.
