Responsibilities and Duties

• Provide onsite, unclassified ASL/English receptive and expressive simultaneous interpretation in a variety of settings, alone and in teams.
• Convey all cultural, linguistic information embedded in the target message, translating thought, intent, and spirit of the speaker.
• Interpret and transliterate expressively and receptively using manual and oral methods for the deaf and hard of hearing.
• Maintain confidentiality of information exchanged in an interpreting situation.
• Communicate effectively by signing, orally, and in writing.
• Keep detailed and accurate records and meet schedules and timelines.

Qualifications and Skills

• Possess advanced, accurate voicing skills to mediate both culturally and linguistically from spoken English to ASL and vice versa.
• Familiar with the terminology and provisions of the American Disabilities Act (ADA).
• Possess skills in a broad range of interpreting assignments.
• General knowledge of specialized vocabulary, including medical terminology, supply chain management, and business vernacular.

Certifications

• National Interpreter Certification (NIC)
• Certificate of Interpretation (CI)
• Certificate of Transliteration (CT)
