Ojibwe Language and Native American Studies (NAS) Teacher

Position Purpose
The position provides Ojibwe language instruction in curricular and co-curricular offerings. The successful candidate will continue the development of language assessment tools and program evaluations.
Essential Functions
- Provide Ojibwe Language and cultural instruction directly to students and staff in Bayfield elementary classrooms.
- Work to develop or revise culturally based lessons, activities, games and arts and crafts appropriate to grade level.
- May assist in working with the Red Cliff Tribe including aspects related to language, culture, and traditions.
- Assist in the integration of various aspects of teaching, learning, sharing, etc., the Anishinaabemowin into the classroom, staff Cultural In-Service gathering, and school-sponsored events and activities.
- Assist with other program related projects as directed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of Ojibwe language required.
- Ability to provide instruction and supervision of students.
- Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Internet, Outlook, G-mail).
- Ability to problem solve job-related issues.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and students with special needs.
- Ability to follow oral and written directions from supervisor, administrators, and to coordinate work with principal teachers and others.
- Ability to describe orally and in writing the services provided by the position.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, families, staff, Tribal Council and others contacted in the course of work.
Qualifications
- Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Licensed Teacher (or ability to become licensed).
- American Indian License (O033); History, Culture, & Tribal Sovereignty; Red Cliff Band Lake Superior Chippewa (9014).
- American Indian License (O032); Language License; Ojibwe (9001).
- OR Any combination of education, licenses, certifications and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying.
- Fluent knowledge of Ojibwemoen.
- Experience working with diverse populations.
- Experience working with children age 5 to 18 years.
- Approved background check.

Salary Range
- $43,085 - $87,186 (based on years of licensed teaching experience).
