About the Position

The primary responsibility is to execute instructional plans and lessons according to an absent teacher’s written teaching plan. The role may vary day to day and includes building substitute, classroom substitute, or multi‑grade as specified.

Job Responsibilities

  • Plan and assess curriculum and instruction effectively.
  • Deliver lessons to assigned students per schedule.
  • Provide instruction that meets individual student needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Set clear learning objectives and employ appropriate instructional techniques.
  • Integrate technology to enhance student learning.
  • Maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Promote high standards for achievement and behavior.
  • Document student progress and provide required reports.
  • Implement district policies and standards.
  • Maintain accurate records per law, policy, and regulation.
  • Support students with disabilities, English learners, and 504 plans.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators.
  • Be available for out‑of‑hours support as reasonable.
  • Attend staff meetings and maintain professional competence.

Qualifications

Required

  • At least 2 years of college coursework completed.
  • Experience working with a diverse student population.
  • Knowledge of MA curriculum frameworks, instruction, and assessment.
  • Understanding of differentiated instruction and response to intervention.
  • Citizenship, residency, or valid work‑visa status.

Preferred

  • Valid Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education teacher licensure in an appropriate grade/subject area.
  • Sheltered English Immersion endorsement for core content teachers.
  • Bilingual Spanish proficiency.

Terms

School day length: 6.5 hours (subject to extended day).

School year: 184 days.

Pay: Building Substitute – $200/day.
