Overview

The Manufacturing Engineer supports the Production Engineering Manager in developing and optimizing manufacturing processes that drive efficiency, quality, and productivity. This role is responsible for planning production methods, designing tooling and fixtures, and creating detailed engineering documentation to support fabrication and assembly operations. The Manufacturing Engineer will collaborate cross-functionally with production, design, and quality teams while working hands-on in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze production specifications, capacity, and workflows to develop efficient manufacturing processes and production plans.
  • Plan, prepare, and issue parts and material schedules in alignment with production requirements and timelines.
  • Design, develop, and implement jigs, fixtures, tooling, and production aids to improve manufacturing efficiency and product quality.
  • Create clear procedures and documentation for the fabrication and modification of tooling and production aids.
  • Research, design, install, and maintain manufacturing equipment and mechanical systems using sound engineering principles.
  • Develop and test prototypes, alternate designs, and process improvements to evaluate feasibility and drive continuous improvement.
  • Estimate costs, prepare bids for engineering projects, and contribute to contract documentation.
  • Produce precise 2D and 3D CAD models, including detailed part and assembly drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Prepare and revise shop drawings, CNC programs (DXF files), and engineering documentation.
  • Apply engineering knowledge—materials, mechanics, mathematics, and manufacturing methods—to support accurate drawing development and process planning.
  • Maintain organized and accessible production drawing files and documentation.
  • Support manufacturing operations with hands-on involvement on the factory floor to troubleshoot issues and improve processes.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent engineering experience required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in plant engineering, production planning, or manufacturing engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment, and production environments (overhead cranes, CNC machinery, jigs, fixtures, etc.).
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD (version 2000 or higher required).
  • Experience generating 2D/3D CAD models and engineering documentation.
  • Working knowledge of CNC programming and DXF file generation.
  • Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication equipment (Brake Press, Shear) is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of engineering mathematics, including geometry, trigonometry, ratios, and metrics.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and ability to learn new design/CAM software tools.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams.
  • Comfortable working on the factory floor and within a hands-on manufacturing environment.
  • Military experience equivalency may substitute for some requirements.
