Summary

The Social Media Coordinator will coordinate all social media efforts for both the Downers Grove and Glendale Campuses, including their academic programs, departments, and medical clinics, as well as special marketing and communications projects within the context of institutional and departmental goals and objectives. Social Media Coordinator is part of the Communications team at the Glendale Campus and collaborates with key staff members on the Downers Grove Campus. The position reports to the Social Media Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Social Media: Organizes Midwestern University's social media presence by developing and maintaining content calendars, posting schedules, and campaigns to ensure consistent and engaging content across the University's social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, YouTube, and Threads) and other platforms. Ensures all copy abides by the University's voice, style, and tone guidelines.

Creative: Assist in designing and developing visual assets using Canva to build templates and frames for video and photo content consistent with the University's brand identity and targeted to each channel's audience.

Social Media Research: Conceptualizes new avenues and creative methods for reaching audiences based on current social media trends and initiatives, including those implemented by the university and peer institutions.

Web Site and Other Electronic Publications: Work collaboratively with the Communications team in the writing of marketing articles for the website. Assist in the creation of new media marketing programs such as videos and mobile communications.

Additional duties include:

Support the communications, special events of the Office of Communications at the Glendale Campus.

Co-present social media-related topics during the bi-monthly social media Advisory Group presentations.

Collaborates with in-house designers on advanced creative imagery and graphic design needs.

Other Qualifications include:

Superior writing and editing skills

Excellent presentation, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.

Knowledge of all social media platforms and the ability to think strategically about how they contribute to marketing objectives.

Knowledge of recruitment and retention practices in higher education and their central role within the work of an effective marketing program.

Knowledge of professional practices and current technologies for producing electronic publications and maintaining institution-wide web sites.

Ability to effectively coordinate a wide variety of projects under demanding deadlines.

Ability to work collaboratively and support the maintenance of a collaborative work culture

Education and/or Experience

Associate’s degree or higher required in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field. 3-5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in a marketing or communications office and/or as a writer/editor preferred. Experience required with various social media platforms. Experience in a healthcare environment preferred. Additional experience is also preferred in the areas of higher education, web site management, and marketing research. Strong copywriting abilities for marketing-focused materials (direct mail campaigns, etc). Professionalism in interacting with internal and external publics.

Computer Skills

Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Experience with web CMS systems also preferred. Experience with social media content management platforms.
