About The Role
Scion Technology has been engaged to conduct a search for a
Lead Firmware Engineer
on behalf of a rapidly growing, mission-driven hardware organization.
This company is building innovative, rugged communication products and expanding its engineering team with its first onsite firmware hire in the San Francisco office.
This position offers the opportunity to take full ownership of the firmware stack, contribute to next-generation radios and accessories, and collaborate with a passionate, lean, and hands-on engineering culture.
You'll be working closely with local electrical and mechanical engineers as well as remote colleagues and international partners.
What You'll Be Doing - Designing, developing, testing, and owning the entire firmware stack across low-power MCUs and SoCs. - Driving end-to-end firmware development, including build systems, debugging, and CI workflows.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams (hardware, mechanical, and product) in a startup environment.
- Contributing to hardware architecture decisions, including MCU/SoC selection, drivers, and interface requirements.
- Leading deployments, migrations, and bringing up new boards.
- Supporting the development of a growing ecosystem of radios and accessories, including devices already in progress.
- Coordinating with international manufacturing partners and traveling to Asia for build milestones (2–3 trips/year, typically 1–2 weeks each).
What You Will Need - 5+ years of experience owning and delivering firmware for consumer electronics in Embedded C/C++ (must have shipped at least one product written in C).
- Strong skills in Python and firmware build/debug tools.
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery, Dataflow, Storage Buckets, Artifact Repository).
- Background in ETL/ELT, database migrations, and API integrations, including SAP-to-GCP and Snowflake migrations.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions) and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform).
- Knowledge of Bluetooth Classic/LE and BLE Audio, Zephyr RTOS, and bootloaders.
- Comfort using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, RF testers, and power supplies.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, startup-style environment.
- Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
Compensation And Benefits - Salary: $140,000 – $175,000 base - Benefits: - 100% paid health care (medical, dental & vision) - Paid parental leave - 100% paid short- & long-term disability - Retirement plan (with future match) - 3 weeks PTO in year one (increasing to 4 weeks in year two) - 7 paid holidays + sick leave - Interested?
