Job Summary This OSP Design Engineer ensures that all network designs are constructible, cost-effective, and aligned with Archtop Fiber’s engineering standards. The OSP Design Engineer makes intelligent decisions regarding make-ready requirements, aerial vs. underground construction methodology, and the efficient routing of fiber facilities. They also ensure that all installed network assets are accurately tracked, documented, and maintained within Archtop’s network management systems.

Responsibilities

Network Design & Engineering: Develop detailed OSP fiber network designs including feeder, distribution, and drop routes.

Evaluate field and GIS data to determine the most effective and cost-efficient construction methods (aerial, underground, or buried).

Conduct and interpret make-ready assessments to ensure compliance with NESC and local pole attachment standards.

Prepare construction-ready documentation including plan and profile drawings, splice schematics, bill of materials (BOM), and fiber assignment sheets.

Ensure all designs meet Archtop Fiber’s technical standards, permitting requirements, and partner utility specifications.

Field Collaboration & Decision-Making

Coordinate with field survey and construction teams to validate routes and resolve real-world design challenges.

Provide technical guidance during make-ready, permitting, and construction phases to ensure accuracy and buildability.

Participate in design reviews and redline updates based on field feedback and as-built conditions.

Network Tracking & Administration

Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of installed fiber infrastructure in Archtop’s GIS and asset tracking systems.

Ensure as-built data, splicing records, and network attributes are complete and traceable.

Support Archtop’s commitment to data integrity, enabling accurate reporting and visibility across Engineering, Construction, and Finance teams.

Cross-Functional Support

Collaborate with Construction Management, Permitting, GIS, and Operations teams to ensure seamless project execution.

Support budgetary and material estimates during the design and pre-construction phases.

Contribute to the continuous improvement of Archtop Fiber’s design standards, workflows, and quality assurance processes.

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Minimum 5 years of OSP engineering experience, ideally in fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) or broadband deployments.

Detailed knowledge of FTTx and PON designs - both centralized and distributed split architectures.

Proficiency with AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and other OSP design platforms.

Strong understanding of NESC, local permitting, and pole attachment requirements.

Ability to interpret utility data, field notes, and engineering prints.

Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple design projects and deadlines simultaneously.

Valid driver’s license.
