District Court Commissioners are judicial officers whose primary function includes reviewing Applications for Statement of Charges by the public and police for the filing of criminal charges in the District Court. They determine probable cause for charges on police on-view arrests and determine pre-trial release and accept Bail Bond moneys and other forms of surety. When the Circuit and District Courts are closed, Commissioners also consider civil petitions for interim Peace Orders and interim Protective Orders. They serve as the public’s first impression of the court and must be available in accordance with law and court rules. Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Notes

District Court Commissioner must reside in the county, or a contiguous county where employed. Baltimore City residents are eligible only for Baltimore City District Court. To view residency requirements:

Flexible to work day, evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts. Available 24/7 and considered essential personnel. Proficient computer use and typing; strong interpersonal and professional demeanor. Ability to make decisions based on legal criteria and to perform all essential functions of the position.
