Site Superintendent Chicago, IL BOWA

Role Overview:
BOWA is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Site Superintendent to oversee field operations for civil construction projects in the Chicago metro area. This position is ideal for a leader who thrives in dynamic site environments and has a strong track record in earthwork, underground utilities, grading, paving, and roadway construction.
Key Responsibilities: Lead and manage daily jobsite operations for civil construction projects including site grading, underground utilities (storm, sanitary, water), paving, and other infrastructure scopes Direct field personnel and subcontractors to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to specification Interpret and enforce construction documents, civil drawings, and technical specifications Ensure compliance with all OSHA regulations and company safety standards; conduct regular safety meetings and site inspections Coordinate equipment, materials, and labor to meet project timelines and budgets Maintain detailed daily field reports, including work progress, weather conditions, manpower, and inspections Work closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to resolve field issues and keep projects on schedule Schedule and lead site coordination meetings with stakeholders and subcontractors Ensure site layout, erosion control, traffic management, and access roads are maintained and functional throughout the project Provide mentorship to field staff and promote a culture of teamwork and accountability
Qualifications: Minimum 5 years of civil construction experience, with at least 3 years in a superintendent or foreman role Deep knowledge of earthwork, trenching, stormwater systems, and utility installation Ability to read and interpret civil plans, grading and utility drawings, and technical specifications Strong leadership and communication skills OSHA 30 Certification required Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to various job sites around the Chicago area Familiarity with construction management software (e.g., Procore, HCSS, or equivalent) High school diploma or equivalent required; degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred
Preferred Skills & Attributes: Experience with Illinois DOT, local municipalities, or public works projects Union crew management experience is a plus Bilingual in English/Spanish is a strong asset Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills Demonstrated ability to maintain site safety, efficiency, and team morale under pressure
