Position Overview:
The Senior Strategist, Financial Modeling will play a critical role within Motiva's Strategy & Market Analysis team, supporting strategic growth initiatives across refining, trading, logistics, and petrochemicals. This role is responsible for building and maintaining advanced financial models that inform investment decisions, capital allocation, and strategic planning. The Strategist partners with M&A, Strategy, and Aramco S&MA teams to evaluate both the strategic fit and financial attractiveness of opportunities, ensuring that Motiva pursues only value-accretive and strategically coherent investments. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in downstream economics, value chain analysis, and scenario modeling to help shape Motiva's long-term growth strategy and optimize its commercial portfolio.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain robust financial models (DCF, IRR, NPV, scenario/sensitivity analysis) to evaluate capital projects, commercial initiatives, and strategic investments Lead financial modeling efforts for organic growth opportunities, acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships, third party projects across the downstream value chain Serve as the financial model owner for Motiva's Corporate Transactions, maintaining version control, assumption logs, and sensitivity analyses consistent with governance standards Support Value Assurance Review (VAR) readiness by ensuring financial models are audit-ready, traceable, and aligned with Motiva's stage-gate process Assess and confirm the strategic fit of potential transactions by aligning each opportunity with Motiva's corporate strategy, downstream portfolio objectives, and Aramco shareholder priorities. Synthesize financial and strategic insights to determine whether an opportunity merits progression to governance review. Collaborate with Strategy, M&A, Portfolio Development, and Commercial teams to assess market opportunities and build business cases grounded in industrial logic and economic viability Translate complex financial insights into clear, actionable recommendations for senior leadership and shareholder stakeholders Support long-range planning and portfolio optimization by integrating financial modeling with strategic priorities and market forecasts Conduct benchmarking and performance analysis across refining, trading, and logistics assets to identify areas for improvement and competitive advantage Establish modeling standards and best practices across the Business Development organization, ensuring consistency and accuracy Evaluate risk exposures and develop mitigation strategies using quantitative analysis and market intelligence Stay current on downstream market trends, regulatory shifts, and competitive dynamics to inform strategic modeling assumptions Mentor junior analysts and contribute to a high-performance, collaborative team culture Experience and Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or related field 8+ years of experience in financial modeling, strategic planning, or business development within the downstream oil & gas industry Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial modeling tools; experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms a plus Strong understanding of refining economics, trading dynamics, and logistics cost structures Proven ability to communicate complex financial concepts to technical and non-technical audiences Experience working in cross-functional teams and influencing senior decision-makers Comfortable navigating ambiguity and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Experience evaluating the strategic and financial fit of acquisition, partnership, or divestiture opportunities. Experience in M&A, strategic evaluation, or business development within the downstream or energy sector. Preferred Education and Experience
MBA or advanced degree in Finance, Strategy, or Engineering Experience with capital-intensive project evaluation and portfolio management Familiarity with shareholder engagement and global strategy alignment Exposure to joint ventures, commercial structuring, or private equity environments MBA, CFA, or other advanced credential. Experience in downstream refining, marketing, or integrated energy operations. Familiarity with complex transaction structures, regulatory and compliance considerations, and Aramco or similar joint venture governance. Proven track record of supporting M&A or strategic transactions from diligence through post-close integration. Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
