Takeda
Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated PhD level Protein Chemist to report into Takeda’s Structural Biology organization. The objective of this role is to support Takeda’s drug discovery programs by advancing the production, characterization, and structural elucidation of proteins critical to therapeutic research. As a member of the Structural Biology organization, this position will focus on designing, producing and characterizing proteins for biochemical assays, biophysical studies, and structure determination using methods such as x-ray crystallography or cryo-EM. The role involves both in-house protein production and characterization, collaboration with external contract research organizations, and engagement with internal experts and cross‑functional teams to achieve project goals.
Accountabilities
Plan and execute protein production campaigns for protein reagents and/or structural biology efforts in collaboration with structural biologists and protein chemists utilizing in-house protein production capabilities, equipment and database resources
Analyze proprietary and public information to positively impact structure determination efforts, reagent or antigen protein production and characterization and/or antibody design, optimization and characterization
Work collaboratively and communicate clearly with interdisciplinary teams, including structural biologists, protein chemists, in vitro pharmacologists, medicinal and computational chemists, project management to advance pipeline projects
Clearly communicate protein production and characterization plans, priorities, results and timelines to varied audiences
Education & Competencies (Technical and Behavioral)
PhD degree in a scientific discipline (Structural Biology, Biophysics, Biochemistry/Enzymology, Protein Chemistry); MS with 6+ years or BS with 8+ years industry experience also considered; industry experience highly desirable
Demonstrated track record of successful hands‑on high‑quality protein production (construct design, cloning, expression, purification, optimization, characterization) of protein reagents, antigens and/or antibodies or other biologics therapeutics for drug discovery teams
Experience in protein production utilizing contract research organizations highly desirable
Success in design, expression and purification of membrane proteins and/or multi‑protein complexes as well as knowledge of and/or experience in structural biology methodologies, biochemical and/or biophysical assays highly desirable
Passion for learning and advancing protein production capabilities and drug discovery pipelines, including proactive investigation of new techniques and capabilities, advanced software / hardware and innovative experimental approaches
Ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced, matrixed environment with a collaborative and proactive mindset, motivated by a desire to create therapeutic molecules for the benefit of patients in need worldwide
