Position: Veterinarian – Full Time
Department: Clinic
Classification: Full Time (40 Hours) – Exempt Salary
Location: Steamboat Springs, CO (Routt County Humane Society – RCHS). RCHS is an open admission, socially conscious animal shelter with an annual intake of 500-700 homeless animals and operates a community wellness clinic.

Responsibilities
Provide outstanding veterinary care to homeless and owned pets, including physical exams, diagnostics, surgical procedures, treatment plans, shelter and owner-requested euthanasia, and participation in off-site mobile spay/neuter/vaccination clinics.
Direct and monitor all aspects of the RCHS shelter and community veterinary program; collaborate with shelter staff to maximize service delivery.
Manage and develop an effective staff, providing leadership, guidance, and resources.
Perform surgical procedures regularly, including high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter, dentistry, and various soft tissue surgeries for shelter and community pets.
Maintain licenses and complete continuing education; adhere to state regulations and organizational protocols regarding animal care and the mission of RCHS.
Oversee shelter drug and supply inventory while meeting DEA, DORA, and PACFA rules and regulations.
Maintain effective communication with staff to coordinate medical functions of the shelter and wellness clinic.
Help coordinate mobile clinic events; some weekend work is required.
Qualifications
Currently licensed to practice in the State of Colorado (or obtain license soon after hiring) and maintain certification.
Minimum one-year experience as an animal shelter veterinarian with high-quality/high-volume surgical experience.
Qualified and eligible to obtain and retain a DEA license.
Knowledge of population and individual animal health management, disease prevention, and epidemiology.
Strong decision-making and diagnostic skills with an interest in pursuing treatment options with limited resources.
Excellent customer service, communication, emotional intelligence, work ethic, and integrity.
Bilingual English/Spanish a plus and may include a wage premium.
Ability to foster a positive work environment; experience developing staff into a cohesive team; accountability for performance.
Prepare to serve as the radiation officer as required by the State of Colorado.
Familiarity with standard medical equipment; proficiency with Idexx veterinary software is a plus.
Physical Requirements
Standing for extended periods; ability to lift up to fifty pounds with reasonable accommodation.
Frequent lifting of animals and objects; exposure to high noise levels, animal bites/scratches, cleaning chemicals, fumes, dust, animal dander, and feces.
Exposure to radiation in association with radiology procedures.
Physical effort includes constant bending, stooping, standing, climbing stairs, and walking; repetitive motion from medical and surgical care.
