Position Summary The Fetal Care Physician’s responsibilities will include a combination of administrative, clinical, research and educational duties. The Physician is responsible for evaluation and treatment of fetal patients. They will participate in team meetings, rounds, as well as have a broad multidisciplinary relationships with the fetal care team, neonatal intensivists, maternal fetal medicine specialists as well as anesthesiologists. The Physician will be responsible for fostering an environment of professionalism and enhancing growth and education in fetal care. This position will report directly to the Division Chief of Fetal Care and Surgeon in Chief.

Responsibilities Role Responsibilities

Assess, evaluate, diagnose and treat fetal anomalies.

Performs and/or orders clinically appropriate procedures for each patient.

Analyze medical histories, diagnostic lab test and x-ray results, clinical examinations and perform physical examinations in formulating a diagnosis, plan of care and documenting in conformity with applicable professional standards, third party payer requirements and the Division’s policies and procedures.

Provide exceptional health care delivery to fetal patients for the hospital.

Works collaboratively with and refers patients to other physicians, including other specialists and health care practitioners, when necessary.

Foster collaboration within the department and interdepartmentally.

Fosters collaboration and strategic relationships with regional hospital systems and providers.

Work collaboratively with division chief and fetal care team to build the fetal care center.

Keeps and maintains accurate, complete, appropriate, timely and legible medical records relating to all professional services provided.

Uses and promotes evidence-based clinical practice.

Reviews on a regular basis long‑term cases that require ongoing medical attention.

Assists in the resolution of complaints, requests and inquiries from patients.

Identifies opportunities for enhancing quality care while supporting quality improvement projects that are consistent with Joint Commission standards as well as institutional priorities.

Participate in education of students, residents, and fellows, including their development.

Participate in clinical activities as well as research.

Maintain the requirements for an academic appointment at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.

Performs other job‑related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities Oversees the division including Physicians, Fellows, Residents, Medical Students and Advanced Practice Providers (APRNs & PAs).

Qualifications Education and/or Experience Required

Graduate from accredited school of medicine required

MD, DO degree

Completed Board required training

License and/or Certification Required

Board eligible or certified in Pediatric surgery or maternal fetal medicine with advanced training in fetal care

Licensed and registered, and in good standing under the laws of the State of Connecticut

Active and Unrestricted D.E.A. Certificate
