Overview In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
Function as a technical specialist or in a lead substation design role encompassing EHV transmission level voltage class.
Under general direction, develop and apply advanced engineering techniques, concepts and approaches to complex engineering problems.
Provide technical guidance over a group or supervise engineering staff on substation design projects.
Be responsible for developing, validating, and presenting specialist/technical output.
Lead other engineers and interface directly with clients.
Be responsible for the overall execution and quality of substation projects as a leader within a team environment.

Key Responsibilities Engineering Standards
Develop and maintain budgets and schedules for multiple substation design projects.
Perform EHV substation design, including physical design, protective relaying/control with an emphasis on continuous improvement.
Develop scoping documents for EHV substation projects.
Provide guidance on department design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and Black & Veatch policies.
Assist in developing, maintaining and updating engineering standards.
Provide technical guidance to others regarding projects and disciplines.
Quality/Continuous Improvement
Independently apply knowledge and comply with Black & Veatch quality program relative to assigned tasks.
Ensure compliance with the quality program while performing internal Quality Assurance technical reviews.
Provide related guidance and direction to others.
Support continuous improvement and change management efforts.
Engineering Production
Prepare a variety of complex engineering deliverables for larger or multiple projects.
Perform complex research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection.
Oversee collection, assimilation, and management of data for engineering work.
Prepare complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles.
Manage assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
Review lower level engineering work or assignments.
Lead larger production teams or coordinate multiple discipline activity; act as the responsible charge for a project.
Project Coordination
Actively coordinate with all other internal/external team members on moderately complex projects.
Manage work assignments and ensure quality from direct reports and project team(s).
Participate in management, project scheduling, and work/resource planning meetings.
Client Focus
Interface directly with clients, vendors and subcontractors.
Communicate client interests and drivers to project team members and develop approaches to accommodate these concerns in the performance of the work on moderately complex projects.
Typically provide support to business development or pursuit activities.
Knowledge Sharing, Innovation and Technology
Serve as a technical specialist and provide consultation and guidance to project teams in a particular practice area.
Typically support multiple projects on complex technical challenges.
People Management
Assist with performance management, mentoring, recognition, and corrective actions.
Participate in career planning, learning and development; mentor less experienced engineers.
Provide constructive feedback and may supervise other engineers and technicians.
Resource Management
Implement resource management strategy.
Manage engineering resources for small groups of a single discipline.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an accredited program.
Minimum of 8 years related work experience.
Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (criminal/civil background check, drug screen, motor vehicle records search) as applicable by law and regulation.
Preferred Qualifications
Power/Power Systems experience preferred.
Quality Assurance and Quality Control of EHV substation design projects.
EHV Substation design experience (physical & P&C).
Technical experience preferred, with specific items including: one-lines, diagrams, protection & control schematics, RTU control lists, grounding and conduit plans, and various substation design tasks.
Experience with 500kV – 13.8kV substations, open air and GIS, and bus configurations.
Work Environment Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.
Certifications Most positions will typically require professional registration or licensure in the designated home office country, or active pursuit of such registration.
