Location: 1 Elba Island Road, Savannah, GA 31404
Primary Purpose Kinder Morgan is currently seeking a Facility Engineer to manage a diverse range of activities spanning civil, structural, mechanical and regulatory fields at our LNG facility in Savannah, Georgia. The position requires broad knowledge and experience in planning and executing projects across these disciplines. Qualified applicants must possess proven planning, project management and problem-solving skills, broad, practical field experience in the oil and gas facility and construction industries, flexibility in meeting changing priorities, and requires close collaboration with Kinder Morgan engineering, operations and maintenance departments, third party contractors, regulators, and other stakeholders, to ensure safe and reliable facility operations.
Dredging and Civil Works Management Management of the dredging of LNG marine vessel maneuvering area and dredged material containment areas
Manage a dredging operation and a civil works operation at a large dredge spoils containment area
Manage bathymetric surveys
Manage dredging contractors (day dredge and large dredge as needed)
Maintain current records of dredging costs and forecasts (Dredge Tracker)
Pursue possible alternative dredging options (direct injection, drag-bar, etc.)
Manage usage of several containment basins (over 600 acres)
Manage DMCA contractor reclaiming dredge materials for use in building up dikes (approx. $2MM annually)
Usage of HYPACK and bathymetric surveying software
Coordinate activities with geotechnical consultants
Interact with the US Army Corps of Engineers and other regulatory entities
Provide cost forecasts and budget updates to management
General Facility Engineering Duties
Perform periodic foundation elevation surveys and bridge inspections based on current ASME standards and submit compliance reports to regulating authorities. Includes elevation (settlement) surveys for storage tank foundations, major equipment, docks, storm surge wall, and LNG tank containment dikes (FERC compliance)
Manage LNG trenching and storm water ditch maintenance programs
Address structure settlement issues caused by soil subsidence
Address building repair needs (roof repairs, Admin Bldg. HVAC modernization, etc.)
Manage and oversee third party bridge inspections
Manage plant road repairs and improvements
Maintain a shoreline on the main shipping channel and mitigate erosion
Perform ship-to-shore compatibility studies and mooring for vessels calling on the terminal
Plan and manage capital projects such as retrofit of LNG dock dry chemical fire suppression systems
Manage various marine, civil, and infrastructure capital projects
Design and implement safety access improvements
Write and review specifications for best practices
Sampling Of Typical Projects (completed in 2025)
Oversee the specifying, purchase and installation of a new ship gangway on the North Dock
Manage LNG tank insulation repairs (perlite injection)
Completed elevation surveys for tanks, major equipment, docks (FERC compliance)
Completed elevation surveys of Surge wall, MSE wall, and D-4 containment dike
Compiled ditch maintenance program
Repaired underground water leak at road crossing (Maximo)
Repaired warehouse ramp (Safety Action item)
Replaced SP-1 gate arms with longer arms (security)
Replaced H-1 glycol heater building roof
Established Conex locations, contents, ownership and storm risks
Resolved US06 calibration cabinet settling issue
Resolved EER-110 roof leak
Replaced Control Bldg. conduit covers with sturdy metal plates
Submitted four-year plan for Admin HVAC
Compiled responses for FERC seismic inquiry
Resolved MI support issue with 4" FG valve V-4365
Compiled potable water line data for GA EPD
Replaced three N. Dock reaction cones
Demolished all six old fenders at River Dock
Saved turnaround time for the dredge during ship arrivals and departures; coordinated with tugboat provider to ensure day dredge is securely moored in the Slip during arrivals and departures
Arranged for a large hydraulic dredge on short notice to restore slip depths
Completed drag dredging trial
Position Requirements
B.S. in an engineering discipline required
Experience / Specific Knowledge
A minimum of seven years in field management of civil and / or marine construction projects or Oil & Gas facility maintenance management, including planning and managing multiple diverse projects, budgeting for the year ahead, and forecasting cost at completion
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
Must possess a valid driver's license and meet company insurability requirements
Must hold or be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card
Competencies, Skills, And Abilities
Computer skills (MS Office, various operating systems, and other company software)
Thorough knowledge of civil and mechanical maintenance and repair principles applicable to an operating facility
Working knowledge of applicable codes, regulations, and standards
Proficiency in HYPACK and bathymetric surveying software
Proficiency in Maximo database software (work order management)
Strong verbal and written communication
Strong interpersonal skills and customer focus
Ability to work in a team, take direction, maintain schedules, and follow work rules
Strong project management skills, including planning, scheduling, forecasting, and budgeting
Ability to speak and understand English
U.S. citizen
Physical Demands And Working Conditions
Work is in an industrial plant environment with exposure to potentially extreme weather
Ability to climb and work from elevated platforms, ladders, walkways, and in confined spaces
Must wear required PPE including fire-resistant clothing and hearing protection
May work in low-lit areas
Occasional travel; travel will vary by business needs
Be available for shift work when applicable
Must respond to callouts and emergencies after hours, including after dark hours
