Job Summary
Provides empathetic pharmacy consulting services to patients regarding the effective use of medications and drug interaction awareness. Offers preventive and clinical healthcare services, including immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcome services. Ensures prescribed medications are compounded, reviewed, dispensed, and verified accurately according to regulatory guidelines and company policies and procedures. Manages an efficient pharmacy workflow and improves pharmacy financials, manages inventory effectively, and enhances patient experience. Manages pharmacy staff performance and engagement. Ensures the professional development of pharmacy staff by overseeing training, focused coaching, and executing formal performance management initiatives. Job Responsibilities
Patient Experience: Engages patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolves patient issues in a timely manner and answers questions to ensure a positive patient experience. Customer service leadership: Models and shares customer service best practices to deliver a distinctive and joyful patient experience, including interpersonal habits and Walgreens service traits. Patient engagement: Connects with patients by anticipating needs and proactively offering services, including immunizations, diagnostic testing, and medication management, promoting the shift from transactional to interpersonal pharmacy care. Events: Participates and assists in events that reflect the communities served. Operations
Counsels patients on usage, side effects, interactions, contraindications, privacy, generics, and OTC products. Refers to medical providers as needed. Performs pharmacist tasks including compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management. Reviews, interprets, and dispenses prescribed medications in accordance with regulations and standards. Ensures regulatory and policy compliance; oversees workflow, scheduling, roles, and shift changes. Supports Good Faith Dispensing and state/federal laws for controlled substances. Collaborates with Store Manager to define strategic business opportunities. Maintains pharmacy IT knowledge for systems, workflow, billing, documentation, inventory, and POS; supports staff and patients with IT; seeks productivity improvements. Ensures insurance claims are processed accurately and resolves issues with insurers and providers; participates in third-party audits as needed. Follow-up with medical providers to clarify prescriptions and patient needs; performs clinical and wellness services as applicable. Manages maintenance and layout of the pharmacy department to ensure a functional and presentable space. Prepares and submits required records and reports to operate the pharmacy business in compliance with laws. People & Performance Management
Collaborates with Store Manager on hiring, discipline, and compliance with employment laws. Establishes expectations and goals; promotes teamwork; recognizes improvements; conducts formal performance reviews. Identifies high-potential team members and supports career progression. Addresses employee relations concerns and maintains positive morale. Training & Personal Development
Maintains required licensing/credentialing/certification as required by federal and state regulations. Maintains knowledge of pharmacy and healthcare developments; pursues best practices to enhance performance. Completes required education credits and training; seeks professional development with mentors and coaches. Communications
Supports Store Manager by communicating relevant corporate health and wellness services or strategy information to staff. Business Performance & Planning
Analyzes performance data (pharmacy financials, customer service, inventory); manages asset protection and inventory; identifies trends and opportunities for improvement. Develops relationships with local medical community; promotes growth opportunities and community health awareness. Basic Qualifications
BS in Pharmacy or Pharm D from an accredited institution. Current pharmacist licensure in the states within the district. Certified Immunizer or willing to become an immunizer within 90 days of hire. At least 1 year of pharmacy experience including prescription filling, recordkeeping, compliance, operations, software, and insurance billing. Experience with prescription dispensing and state/federal controlled substance laws. Performance history indicating leadership potential and compliance (Internal candidates only). About Walgreens
