This position is being posted for a potential government contract opportunity. Employment and compensation are contingent upon contract award. The pay range listed represents a good‑faith estimate, in accordance with California pay transparency requirements, and may vary depending on the final contract terms, the candidate’s experience, education, and other job‑related factors.

Job Overview The Network Engineer V (Onsite Engineer Extreme Certified) is responsible for maintaining the reliability and security of the DLIFLC Network’s voice, data, and wireless services, with a primary focus on Extreme Networks hardware and solutions. This senior‑level position provides onsite technical expertise, proactively anticipates and resolves network issues, and leads network optimization, upgrades, and expansions. The engineer will also provide training to network staff and serve as the primary onsite contact for Extreme Networks support and escalations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Lead and mentor network engineering staff.

Serve as the senior onsite technical expert for Extreme Networks products.

Oversee network‑related projects and escalations.

Act as Senior Network Architect for design updates of the DLIFLC Network.

Serve as Project Manager for high‑priority network projects using Extreme devices.

Tune and optimize network devices, including Extreme Networks hardware.

Plan and document software releases.

Serve as the onsite contact for support and product escalations with Extreme Networks.

Assist with installation of new product installations and capturing data collections for problem determination.

Collect Extreme Network data regularly for trend analysis.

Provide additional onsite technical product expertise to support and enhance DLIFLC’s Cyber Infrastructure staff resources and skills.

Resolve license change issues or requirements.

Perform proactive maintenance and support to optimize Extreme Network product environments.

Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve DLIFLC end‑user issues.

Provide comprehensive knowledge transfer sessions to IT staff, focusing on Extreme products.

Define, manage, and execute problem resolution plans and communicate closure/resolution to Extreme technical support and DLIFLC end users.

Submit weekly reports to the COR every Friday.

Proactively anticipate potential network issues and offer DLIFLC priority services.

Competencies

Advanced knowledge of networking concepts, protocols, and technologies (LAN, WAN, routing, switching, VLANs, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, network security).

Expertise in Extreme Networks products (switches, routers, access points, network management tools) and relevant industry certifications.

Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills; adept at troubleshooting complex network issues.

Experience managing network‑related projects, including planning, implementation, and documentation.

Experience with VMware NSX, Ruckus, Palo Alto Networks, Brocade, Cisco, Aruba, Ciena, and SolarWinds/InMon Sentinel/Uptrends.

Ability to provide technical training and knowledge transfer to IT staff.

Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Requirements

BA/BS from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 5+ years of experience, or AA/AS with 7+ years of experience.

10+ years of relevant experience working with network infrastructure, preferably with a focus on Extreme Networks products and solutions.

Any one of the following: IAT Level II (CySA+, Security+, CND, or SSCP) Certification and CE/OS Certification.

CCNA Certification or equivalent required.

Extreme Networks certification required.

Experience with VMware NSX, Ruckus, Palo Alto Networks, Brocade, Cisco, Aruba, Ciena, and SolarWinds/InMon Sentinel/Uptrends.

Security Requirement

Active Secret Clearance

Location and Travel Requirements Based in Monterey, CA (Presidio of Monterey) with travel to additional sites including HI, AZ, CA, VA, and other CONUS/OCONUS locations as outlined in the PWS.

Salary Description $150,000 - $185,000
