About the Job Peak Energy is looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to work on mechanical designs of our utility‑scale sodium‑ion energy storage systems (ESS). This role focuses on design ownership of critical mechanical structures and collaborates closely with design, analysis, manufacturing and program teams.
Responsibilities
Design ownership of Peak's ESS mechanical enclosure systems from architecture through continuous improvement
Define product design direction by meticulously exploring broadly and deeply, while trading and communicating design decisions
Focus on design areas of need, which may include mechanical enclosures, environmental seals, and heat sinks
Develop and manage subsystem and component requirements
Interface tightly with partners such as thermal and structural analysts and other design functions to inform design decisions
Drive and participate in a culture of rapid prototyping and testing
Support validation of Peak products from concept through field deployment
Ensure a smooth transition from maturing product to mass production
Maintain a team spirit and get‑it‑done attitude
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering or related field
0–3 years of relevant experience, including academic or internship experience
Mastery of mechanical and thermal engineering fundamentals
Conversant in electrical fundamentals
Extensive use of commercial CAD and PLM software (CATIA or NX)
Familiarity with FEA/CFD and other common CAE practices
Familiarity with high voltage battery system or power electronics design
Experience with design and manufacturing of medium to high volume products
Hands‑on prototyping, validation and testing experience
Passion for renewable energy, sustainability, and driving positive environmental impact through technology innovation
Eligible to work in the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications
2+ years of experience working with HV batteries or power electronics
Product design experience with high volume automated manufacturing requirements
Salary and Benefits The salary range for this role is $110,000 – $140,000, with actual pay varying based on location, experience, and skills. We offer a competitive benefits package that includes flexible time off, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k) plan, and equity opportunities.
