Peak Energy
About the Company
Peak Energy is the first American venture to advance globally proven Sodium‑Ion battery systems as the storage standard for the new era of renewable energy on a resilient grid. Sodium‑Ion is cheap, readily available and safe, making it the leading contender in a rapidly evolving market. Our leadership team is powered by decades of expertise in scaling gigawatt-level innovation at world‑class companies such as Tesla, Northvolt, SunPower, Fluence, and Enovix. We are backed by strategic investment and product partners such as TDK Ventures and Eclipse Ventures. We are a team of engineers, operators, entrepreneurs, and partners driven by a shared ambition to set the new performance standard for renewable energy and grid resilience.
About the Job Peak Energy is looking for a Systems Modeling Engineer to join our Energy Storage Systems (ESS) team and work at the forefront of the development of our gigawatt scale energy storage systems. This role will leverage expertise to drive major thermal and electrical architectural decisions and dive deeply into key electrical and battery component simulation. This role must explore broadly and dive deeply. With a drive for rigorous optimization, meticulous documentation and clear communication of findings, you will work closely with design, test, validation, manufacturing engineering and leadership to navigate our products' development. This person is a self‑starter who is hungry for knowledge and holds themselves and others to high standards.
Responsibilities
Define system and component design direction and requirements by developing detailed models of energy storage systems across operating modes and external conditions, including battery modules and power electronic components.
Identify key performance indicators and optimize system design to enhance these metrics.
Validate models with experimental data and refine them based on test results.
Tireless exploration, both broadly and deeply, and clear communication of assumptions, inputs and findings.
Define and spearhead selection and development of tools, infrastructure and design practices.
Interface tightly with design, test, validation and manufacturing engineering partners to inform design decisions.
Drive and participate in a culture of rapid prototyping and testing.
A great team spirit and get‑it‑done attitude. No job is too big or too small.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Engineering or related field.
5‑10 years of experience working with power systems.
Strong electrical and thermal engineering fundamentals.
Extensive use of MATLAB/Simulink or Python.
Familiarity with high voltage battery systems or power electronics.
Experience with design and manufacturing of medium to high volume products.
Hands‑on prototyping, validation and testing experience.
Passion for renewable energy, sustainability, and driving positive environmental impact through technology innovation.
Eligible to work in the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications
High voltage battery and power electronics experience.
Utility‑scale energy storage systems experience.
Supervisory control simulation experience.
