We’re seeking a dynamic Software Programs Chief to lead across multiple software programs in our Open Systems Architecture business profile at Collins. This is your opportunity to lead cutting-edge work in areas like communications, platform software, mission processing and cryptographic software alongside top engineers in software, hardware, FPGA, and systems design.

As the Software Programs Chief, you’ll guide high-performing software teams responsible for developing open systems solutions. You’ll have a critical voice from program execution across programs to ensuring software development best practices—ensuring technical excellence while managing cost and schedule.

What You Will Do

Oversee and guide software program teams across multiple projects to ensure project alignment with technical, budgetary, and schedule objectives.

Manage resources effectively, drive project milestones, and address technical and operational challenges.

Foster a positive team culture by celebrating successes and encouraging collaboration

Report on and assist in resolving technical and operation challenges

Act as the key point of contact between engineering teams and stakeholders such as program management, customers, and cross-functional teams.

Develop and implement best practices across Open Systems Software programs and teams to enhance efficiency and performance

Promote a culture of collaboration, innovation, and knowledge sharing across teams

Ensure compliance with Collins standards, processes, and industry best practices in software development.

Mentor software engineers through various phases of the software development lifecycle

Review development artifacts to ensure quality, consistency, and alignment with each programs’ objectives.

Provide input and guidance on the technical direction of software efforts.

Qualifications You Must Have

Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 12 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 10 years of experience

Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC), including Agile

Minimum of 5+ years experience leading engineering teams, including mentoring, task delegation, and cross-functional collaboration in a technical development environment.

Minimum of 5+ years experience in program execution, including bidding, project planning, Earned Value Management (EVM), and risk and opportunity management.

Experienced with embedded software development

Qualifications We Prefer

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to serve as a liaison between technical teams and external stakeholders.

Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to address technical and operational challenges effectively.

Experience with systems engineering principles and open systems architecture.

Experience managing large programs

Experience working with communication systems.

The salary range for this role is 147,000 USD - 295,000 USD.
