The Opportunity

WSDOT is seeking a dynamic and experienced engineering professional with exceptional leadership skills to lead an Olympic Region design and construction office. As the Project Engineer, you will lead and direct an engineering office of approximately 10-20 engineers and technicians responsible for the delivery of assigned design and construction projects. This role requires close coordination with region staff, support groups, HQ, and regional partners to achieve organizational goals. The ideal candidate will promote a balanced workplace, supporting training and development for professional growth, employee safety, workforce diversity, and pride in ownership. This position supports the agency strategic plan and goal areas of: 1) Workforce Development; 2) WSDOT for All; and 3) Resilience, through effective management controls and adherence to WSDOT policies to ensure delivery of projects meet quality, safety, and stewardship standards. What To Expect

Provide leadership, management, and engineering oversight to a team of engineers, technicians, and consultants responsible for the delivery of design and construction projects. Ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and have appropriate QA/QC to ensure deliverables are constructible and maintainable. Collaborate and build effective working relationships internally and externally to accomplish organizational goals. Develop and implement project communication and outreach strategies. Implement practical solutions during project development. Oversee scope, schedule, and budget issues affecting projects. Utilize effective engineering techniques and sound engineering judgment. Analyze and develop workforce strategies addressing recruitment, retention, training, and development. Provide training opportunities and coach/mentor staff to ensure successful project delivery for projects using alternate delivery methods. Qualifications

To be considered for this opportunity, the following competencies are required: Engineering Leadership & Contract Management: Strong engineering background with experience managing construction contracts and supervising engineering staff to deliver complex transportation projects. Program Planning, Decision-Making & Project Accountability: Apply design, construction, and contract administration knowledge to set goals, monitor progress, make timely decisions, and ensure delivery to quality, environmental, and organizational standards. Leadership & Management: Ability to supervise, coach, and develop employees in a productive, inclusive, and safety-focused work environment. Communication & Stakeholder Engagement: Ability to communicate effectively with employees, leadership, and the public while addressing stakeholder needs. Respect and Equity: Contribute to a work environment that fosters respect, inclusion, and equal opportunity. In addition to the above, the following are also required: Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in Washington or another state with the ability to obtain WA licensure within six (6) months of employment. A valid driver’s license to operate vehicles in Washington. Ability to perform periodic weekend and evening work as needed for delivery or emergency response. Preferred Qualifications

Advanced Engineering & Management Experience: Licensed professional engineer with highway or bridge construction/design and supervisory experience managing a diverse workforce. Advanced Alternative Delivery Experience: Experience managing projects through Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, CMGC, and Progressive Design-Build.
