Underwriting Manager, Renewal at Berkley Aspire (a Berkley Company). Responsibilities
Lead the Renewal Underwriting team and oversee underwriting support functions within the department.
Supervise the Renewal Underwriter team and manage all workflows and processes supporting renewal underwriting.
Collaborate with Underwriting leadership to implement Aspire’s Commercial Underwriting strategy to drive profitable growth and achieve business unit objectives.
Evaluate, accept, reject or modify risks within established underwriting guidelines and authority; comply with company policies, procedures and rating plans.
Respond to internal and external client inquiries.
Monitor workloads of Renewal Underwriters and adjust to ensure transactions meet service standards.
Review and underwrite fast track and non-fast track renewals as needed to achieve renewal premium retention and rate change objectives.
Provide subject matter expertise on systems, processes and procedures.
Serve as the first point of contact for assigned team members and as a referral authority for the Renewal Underwriting team.
Coach, train and mentor the Renewal Underwriting team, including training of new hires and ongoing education.
Evaluate, monitor and improve processes and workflows to gain efficiencies; update guidelines, procedures, workflows and training materials as needed.
Perform research on issues and analyze data to propose solutions; escalate issues impacting performance.
Participate in quality control reviews and provide training and guidance based on review outcomes.
Collaborate with Core Underwriting Leadership to ensure objectives are met and work to boost team morale and performance.
Continue to increase underwriting knowledge and skills (e.g., AINS, ASLI, CPCU, CIC).
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree preferred and 5+ years of related insurance experience; excess and surplus experience is highly preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Leadership experience (formal preferred; open to informal mentoring/leadership).
Strong customer service background in a professional environment.
Entrepreneurial qualities, resilience to change, and ability to focus on priorities.
Fosters teamwork and provides welcoming, open, honest, respectful and constructive feedback.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment; effective written and oral communication.
