Overview

Position Summary: This pre-CTR position is for a candidate with RHIA who has training in health information management, medical terminology, and health information coding, prerequisites to be trained to become a CTR. Given the complexity of abstracting and coding cancer cases and the requirement for accuracy of cancer data, this person will not be assigned work that only CTRs can perform before finishing mandatory training. The person will perform basic registry work after less intensive training, such as screening pathology reports to identify reporting cases and processing and cleaning data. The person will be given some real cases to abstract under supervision as part of the training.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management or related field

1-3 years of experience with medical records

Must obtain the CTR certificate within 3 years
