Overview

Oversees and manages all aspects of the equipment maintenance activities of a maintenance division or specialized maintenance operation; plans, develops, establishes, and prioritizes the work of the division to help meet the goals and objectives of Metro's vision and mission and to ensure employee and public safety and transit operations reliability. Develops goals, establishes priorities, and directs the work of the staff and equipment maintenance operations Develops short-, mid-, and long-range strategies to achieve goals Conducts special planning and operational projects; prepares related reports, data, budgets, and work programs Administers safety, quality assurance, and vehicle preventive maintenance programs Projects division expenditures to assist in departmental budget calculations Administers various union contracts for compliance; conducts disciplinary and grievance hearings Maintains training program for assigned staff and ensures Personnel Qualification Standards are met Works with other departments, outside agencies, and vendors to coordinate activities Meets with other managers to discuss and ensure service requirements are met Investigates and reports on accidents and equipment failures Prepares and submits budget proposal for assigned area; monitors annual expenditures Develops and prepares programs and schedules for equipment upgrades Assesses and submits cost of repair estimates Supervises, trains, mentors, and motivates assigned staff Communicates and implements safety rules, policies, and procedures in support of the agency's safety vision and goals; and maintains accountability for the safety performance of all assigned employees May be required to perform other related job duties. Education

Bachelor's Degree in Business, Public Administration, Engineering, or a related field Experience

Five years of relevant management-level experience in fleet maintenance; some positions in this class may require specialized experience in area of assignment Certifications/Licenses/Special Requirements

A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions Preferred Qualifications

Experience developing, implementing, and monitoring corrective action plans (CAPs) resulting from safety audits, inspections, or incident investigations Experience overseeing or coordinating State Safety Oversight (SSO) inspections and ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations (e.g., FTA, CHP, CARB, SCAQMD, OSHA, EPA) Experience administering labor contracts, conducting grievance hearings, and working effectively in a unionized environment Experience demonstrating strong leadership and interpersonal skills, including mentoring, coaching, and developing staff at all levels Knowledge of

Theories, principles, and practices of fleet maintenance Mechanical systems and concepts Applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations governing maintenance of public transit systems Public agency procurement processes and contract administration Modern management theory Applicable computer business software applications such as Microsoft Office Suite Skill in
