Position Summary The Lead Responsible Engineer (LRE) serves as the primary engineering authority and “Owner Advocate” for large‑scale electric transmission and substation (T&S) projects. This is a senior project‑focused role responsible for the overall technical leadership and coordination of engineering activities from conception through construction. The LRE acts as the central point of contact between client engineering, consulting engineering firms (EOCs), and the PowerRise project management team, ensuring that all engineering deliverables meet client standards, project scope, and industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the primary technical point of contact for all aspects of T&S projects, ensuring engineering tasks and deliverables are met in accordance with client procedures.
Coordinate project scope definition, conceptual and detailed design, and all engineering deliverables.
Lead engineering & constructability site walk‑downs to identify and resolve potential design issues early in the project lifecycle.
Conduct thorough reviews of electrical and physical design packages (including single‑line diagrams, schematics, and physical layouts) to ensure they functionally meet project requirements and comply with all client and industry standards (IEEE/ANSI).
Ensure Transmission System Operations and IT teams receive necessary equipment modeling data and SCADA information in a timely manner.
Review and approve/deny field change requests and digging clearance drawings to maintain design integrity during construction.
Support the Project Manager in developing and maintaining the overall project schedule, ensuring all necessary engineering tasks are accurately represented.
Assist in developing RFP documents for external engineering services and participate in the technical evaluation of proposals.
Review the major equipment list to ensure all components are purchased as required by the design and meet technical specifications.
Participate in project team meetings and construction status meetings to provide engineering updates and resolve technical challenges.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an accredited university.
10+ years of progressive experience in utility substation and transmission engineering, with a deep understanding of design, equipment, and industry practices for systems from 15 kV through 500 kV.
Proven experience in a lead engineering role with responsibility for overseeing the work of other engineers or consulting firms (EOCs).
Strong ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems, including protection & control schematics and physical layouts.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical issues to all levels of management and project stakeholders.
Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to client sites as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
Experience with both air‑insulated substations (AIS) and gas‑insulated substations (GIS).
Graduate degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or Project Management.
A working knowledge of industry analysis software (e.g., PSS/E, PSCAD, CYME).
