Job Title:
Manager, DER & Microgrid Integration
Location: Atlanta, GA
Position Summary We are seeking a forward‑thinking and strategic teammate to lead a dynamic team focused on the development, integration, and testing of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), including microgrids, flexibility technologies, and emerging grid‑edge solutions. This role is pivotal in shaping the utility’s evolving grid capabilities, ensuring safe, reliable, and scalable deployment of DERs across our service territory.
The ideal candidate will bring a blend of strategic thinking, leadership experience, and technical aptitude to drive innovation and operational excellence in DER deployment and integration.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Development:
Provide leadership to cross‑functional teams responsible for DER project development, microgrid design and implementation, customer program support, and witness testing.
Project Execution:
Oversee the successful execution of active DER projects, ensuring alignment with regulatory commitments, customer expectations, and grid modernization goals.

Strategy Execution:
Oversee the planning, design, and execution of utility‑scale and customer‑sited microgrids; collaborate with internal stakeholders to align DER initiatives with broader grid transformation goals.
Witness Testing & Validation:
Manage DER witness testing protocols to ensure compliance with interconnection standards (e.g., IEEE 1547, UL 1741), safety, and performance requirements; interface with regulatory bodies and technical committees to shape and interpret DER testing standards.
Technology Innovation & Integration:
Evaluate and work cross‑functionally to safely integrate emerging DER technologies including energy storage, flexible loads, V2X, and advanced inverters; lead cross‑functional efforts to integrate DERs into grid operations, planning, and forecasting tools.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Serve as a technical liaison with large load customers, developers, regulators, and internal departments; represent the utility in industry forums, working groups, and collaborative research initiatives; coordinate with customer teams and regulatory teams to ensure DER strategies meet external commitments and customer expectations.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field; demonstrated work experience in the DER space is also considered; 6 years in the energy sector, with a preference for experience with DERs, emerging technologies, or technical roles; 2 years in a leadership or management role.
Leadership & Communication:
Proven ability to lead technical teams and manage complex projects; strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for diverse audiences; experience with utility regulatory environments and stakeholder engagement.
Technical Expertise:
Strong understanding of DER technologies, interconnection standards (IEEE 1547, UL 1741), and grid integration considerations; ability to lead cross‑functionally to represent grid transformation with customer teams, regulatory, and other business units as well as externally.
