Global Shipping & Customs Brokerage Manager

About the Team Sitting within Operations, this role leads international freight forwarding, customs brokerage coordination, and end-to-end trade compliance. Reporting to the Global Head of Operations, you will be the primary point of contact for all cross-border shipments, trade lanes, and customs matters, ensuring our equipment and experiences move swiftly and compliantly worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
Source, tender, and negotiate international air, ocean (FCL/LCL), and road freight with carriers, NVOCCs, and forwarders across the Americas, EMEA, and APAC.
Build and manage a regional agent/port network to secure capacity, optimize transit times, and reduce landed cost.
Own HS classification, product master data, and documentation (commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin).
Define and apply Incoterms® for each movement; manage duties, taxes, and international bonds.
Coordinate closely with customs brokers; prepare entries, rulings, and post‑entry adjustments as needed.
Monitor and enforce compliance with import/export controls, sanctions, and ISO requirements.
Shipment Execution & Visibility
Orchestrate door‑to‑door shipments from multiple origins to global warehouses and client sites; ensure OTIF delivery.
Arrange special handling and heavy‑lift requirements (cranes, forklifts, container deliveries) for installations.
Implement tracking, milestone visibility, and exception management across all modes.
Documentation & Finance Interface.
Ensure complete, audit‑ready files including POs, SLAs, licences/permits, and transport insurance.
Partner with Finance on landed‑cost modelling, duty recovery, and freight audit & pay.
Inventory & Order Flow (Light Touch)
Maintain accurate inventory counts across systems and trigger replenishment POs in line with shipping lead times.
Project‑manage carrier mix, parcel/omni‑channel solutions, and regional consolidation strategies.
Define KPIs (transit time, OTIF, landed cost/CBM, brokerage accuracy) and drive root‑cause elimination.
Build and develop a lean logistics/brokerage support structure and contractor pool.
Qualifications
Proven experience in international shipping, freight forwarding, or customs brokerage management with a track record of moving complex, multi‑modal freight globally.
Deep knowledge of air, sea, and road networks; Incoterms®; HS classification; duties/taxes; and customs processes across the US, Europe and Asia.
Strong vendor management and negotiation skills with carriers, NVOCCs, forwarders, and customs brokers.
Minimum 3 years in supply chain/operations with significant project management exposure.
Excellent analytical and organizational skills; proficient with standard logistics platforms (TMS/WMS/visibility tools).
Hands‑on leader comfortable in a fast‑paced, startup‑style environment.
Knowledge of Deltek VantagePoint and ClickUp is a plus.
