The Power Systems Maintenance Instructor of Specialty Vehicle & Equipment (PS& E) will: train, instruct, and monitor the various classifications in the Power Division to include all Transmission and Distribution personnel (T&D), Power System & Equipment Personnel – on their duties and responsibilities as it relates to Specialty Vehicles and Equipment; certify and re-certify various classifications on an annual and/or bi-annual basis in all aspects of their classification and adherence to all Authority and Departmental policies and procedures, utilizing industry best practices and manufacturers recommendations.

Manage all Power training programs to meet a variety of Power Department specialty vehicles and equipment as the subject matter expert.

Assist in the assessment of the specialty vehicle and equipment-training needs of the department, define and implement that plan of action with the Authority's goals and safety culture first and foremost.

Conduct instructor-led training, both classroom and hands‑on experience in the field and/or training yard for Specialty Vehicle & Equipment.

Direct and develop curriculum and documentation as necessary to expand training programs for existing and future equipment as equipment is introduced to the department.

Coordinate all training, including scheduling with employees and their direct report supervisor, all activities within the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), schedule classroom and on‑the‑job training to minimize any impact on regular personnel assignments.

Conduct observations of employees operating equipment in the performance of their classification job duties, including audits of training.

Assist in the development of training programs, PowerPoint presentations, films, handouts, and written exams for the professional development and promotion of employees.

Development of training programs utilizing modern training techniques, including presentations, videos, exercises with quizzes, and testing utilizing Microsoft Office Programs to include handouts and written exams for the professional development and promotion of employees.

Re‑instruct employees on their duties when needed or directed by the Supervisor of Training and the Superintendent of PS&E as part of discipline and report of non‑compliance by a supervisor.

Keep accurate training records on all students and maintain up‑to‑date training programs by establishing ongoing communications with educational services and vendors.

Establish and maintain an audiovisual library of instructional material, direct the development of technical manuals for instructional and reference purposes, and evaluate existing training programs and provide suggestions for modifications and improvements.

Remain current with the MBTA safety plan as well as the positions' outline of responsibilities.

Ensure budgetary goals are met and that all work is performed in a timely and cost‑effective manner.

Participate in the recruitment, training, discipline, and promotion of personnel. Inspect and ensure that all inventory levels, equipment, and facilities under their control are protected in a safe operating condition.

Ensure the safety of passengers and employees through the enforcement of Authority standards and policies.

Communicate with Authority top management and other Authority departments regarding line activities and problems.

Drive a company or personal vehicle to visit work sites and assist at emergencies and events, and/or transport crews or equipment as needed.

Respond to each inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor, or coworker, in a courteous and professional manner. Work any and all shifts and/or locations assigned or directed.

Respond, either directly or through others, to emergencies twenty‑four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week.

Uphold the rights and interests of the Authority while building and maintaining an effective relationship with employees.

Assist in the management of a workforce by ensuring fair and consistent application and strict adherence to the rules, regulations, collective bargaining agreements (if applicable), and policies of the Authority, including the EEO, Anti‑Discrimination, Anti‑Harassment, and Anti‑Retaliation policies.

Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned.

Qualifications

Five (5) years of journey‑level experience with the operation of power system specialty vehicles, equipment, and related equipment operations.

Experience as an instructor related to specialty vehicles and equipment on high rail equipment.

Effective organizational and analytical skills.

Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Database, or PowerPoint applications. Excellent written and oral communication skills.

The ability to evaluate and guide the performance of others in various training situations.

Excellent customer service, training, and presentation skills.

The ability to provide internal and external customers with a courteous and professional experience.

The ability to work any and all shifts and/or locations as assigned or directed. Be available to work twenty‑four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week.

The ability to supervise and work effectively with a diverse workforce.

A valid driver’s license.

Successful applicants must have English language skills required for the effective performance of the position.

Minimum Education

A high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) from an accredited institution.
