Job: The Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) Manager is responsible for overseeing and advancing the organization’s clinical documentation improvement program to ensure accurate, complete, and compliant patient records. This role works closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, coders, and quality teams to enhance documentation practices that reflect the true acuity of patient care, support compliant coding, and optimize quality outcomes and reimbursement.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage the CDI program, including daily operations, workflow optimization, and performance improvement initiatives.
Supervise and mentor the CDI team (specialists, auditors, educators) to ensure consistent documentation standards and professional growth.
Partner with physicians, advanced practice providers, and coders to clarify clinical documentation, ensuring accurate capture of patient conditions, severity of illness, and risk adjustment.
Review inpatient and outpatient records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory and payer requirements.
Analyze trends in clinical documentation, coding, and quality metrics to identify areas for improvement.
Collaborate with Quality, Compliance, and Revenue Cycle teams to align documentation practices with organizational goals and value-based care initiatives.
Develop and implement training programs for providers and staff to improve documentation practices and awareness.
Monitor CDI program KPIs and report on financial, operational, and quality impact to senior leadership.
Ensure adherence to federal, state, and payer regulations, including CMS, ICD-10-CM/PCS, and coding guidelines.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Health Information Management, or related field (Master’s preferred).
Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), Physician Assistant (PA), or RHIA/RHIT/CCDS/CCS certification required.
Minimum 5–7 years of clinical documentation improvement, coding, or clinical experience in an acute or multi-specialty care setting.
Proven leadership experience managing CDI or related healthcare operations.
Strong knowledge of ICD-10, MS-DRG, HCC coding, risk adjustment, and value-based care models.
Excellent communication skills with ability to collaborate effectively with clinicians, coders, and executive leadership.
Data-driven mindset with proficiency in CDI software, EMRs (Epic/Cerner/athenahealth), and data analysis tools.
