About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented
Senior Payroll GL Accountant
to join our Accounting team. This role is responsible for managing payroll-related accounting functions across the U.S. and Canada, including reconciliations, accruals, and general ledger analysis.
Key Responsibilities
Perform payroll-related general ledger reconciliations for both U.S. (weekly and bi-weekly) and Canadian (bi-monthly) payroll cycles.
Prepare and record payroll journal entries, including benefits and commission accruals.
Ensure the accuracy and completeness of payroll data within the general ledger.
Reconcile payroll accounts and investigate variances in a timely manner.
Collaborate with Payroll Operations, HR, and Finance teams to ensure accurate payroll processing and reporting.
Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities related to payroll accounts.
Assist with audits (internal, external, and SOX) by providing schedules, documentation, and explanations of payroll-related entries.
Identify opportunities for process improvement and help streamline payroll accounting workflows.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA or working toward certification preferred.
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including strong exposure to payroll accounting and general ledger reconciliations.
Strong understanding of payroll accruals, benefits accounting, and commissions accruals.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and familiar with ERP/accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, Workday).
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment and meet tight deadlines.
Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco/Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs.
