The Device Team at Tools for Humanity is responsible for all aspects of driving the Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Logistics, Physical Security, Field Operational Compliance, and Technical Support of our world‑class hardware devices reaching billions of people globally. About The Opportunity:
Tools for Humanity is looking for a creative mechanical engineer who, based on the product requirements, will support the product in all phases from research and development through design and prototype manufacturing to handover to our contract manufacturers. Our goal is to design innovative, reliable and manufacturable mechanical components and systems to ultimately produce a perfectly functioning and visually appealing product.
Core Responsibilities
Design components and systems based on product requirements
Perform a full lifecycle product development (design, develop, test, manufacture and implement)
Collaborate mainly with Industrial design, Electrical engineering and Supply chain
Produce outline designs and evaluate theoretical designs
Build prototypes and methodically conduct experiments, analyze data and interpret results
Alter and modify design to meet requirements and to eliminate malfunctions and find effective solutions to emerging problems
Evaluate final product’s overall performance, reliability and safety
Collaborate with SupplyChain/Production to verify and possibly improve manufacturability
Material selection and estimation of manufacturing costs
Prepare product and component documentation
About You
Proven working experience in mechanical engineering
Working experience with finite element analysis (FEA), computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and product lifecycle management (PLM)
Strong hands‑on experience with 3D engineering design and manufacturing tools (SolidWorks, PTC Creo)
Creativity and analytical skills
Solid understanding of core concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics and materials science
Working experience in the design of injection molded components
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field (mechanical engineering or mechatronics)
Exceptional communication and collaboration skills
Proficient in English, with strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong drive and work ethic to drive projects to successful completion
Nice‑to‑Haves
Experience with the tech industry, particularly with electronic devices
Previous experience with fast‑moving startups

Pay transparency statement (for CA and NY based roles): The reasonably estimated salary for this role at TFH in San Francisco ranges from $246,000 – $280,000, plus a competitive long‑term incentive package, and may include variable compensation. Actual compensation is based on factors such as the candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience.
