Senior Data Engineer
- to join our team dedicated to the Associate Productivity Experience (APEX) org within EBS Walmart Global Tech. In this high-impact role, you will design and build next-generation, AI-based data solutions that influence Walmart’s day-to-day operations across multiple global markets. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in Big Data and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) technologies, with knowledge of AI engineering principles. You will work on complex business problems spanning multiple countries, large user bases, and large data sets.

Our APEX organization supports a large heterogeneous enterprise and builds software products to enhance associate productivity and mobility through AI solutions, seamless experience, and continuous improvement.
What you'll do You will use your data engineering experience and technical skills to define, improve, and deploy technical mitigation solutions.
Data Strategy: Understands, articulates, and applies the defined strategy to routine business problems that involve a single function.
Data Transformation and Integration: Extracts data from identified databases. Creates data pipelines and transforms data to a structure relevant to the problem; develops knowledge of current analytics trends.
Data Source Identification: Supports prioritization of requirements and SLAs. Identifies suitable data sources and performs initial data quality checks on extracted data.
Data Modelling: Analyzes complex data elements, systems, and data flows to contribute to conceptual, physical, and logical data models. Develops logical and physical data models including data warehouse/design; defines relational tables, keys, and stored procedures; evaluates existing models for variances; develops efficient data flows.
Code Development and Testing: Writes code to develop solutions, creates test cases, proofs of concept, and validates with appropriate testing; deploys software to production; maintains documentation and progress updates.
Problem Formulation: Translates business problems to data-related or mathematical solutions; recommends methods (analytics, big data analytics, automation) to solve the problem.
Applied Business Acumen: Provides recommendations to stakeholders, develops business cases, translates requirements into projects aligned to strategy, and suggests new processes and ways of working.
Data Governance: Establishes and documents data governance practices; interprets policy and educates others on governance processes and guidelines.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Demonstrates up-to-date expertise to guide action plans and align efforts with customer and business needs.
What you'll bring
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
8+ years of relevant experience with Scala/Python (PySpark), distributed databases, Kafka, multi-threading, and functional programming.
Strong fundamentals in CS, data structures, algorithms, and problem solving.
Professional experience in SQL and query optimization.
Experience building data ingestion/consumption frameworks.
Experience with orchestration tools (Airflow preferred, Automic, etc.).
Hands-on data processing and manipulation experience.
Expertise with GCP data processing tools and technologies (GCS, DataProc, DPaaS, BigQuery, Hive, etc.).
Experience with streaming data via Kafka or structured streaming.
CI/CD automation experience with Git, Jenkins, and related tooling.
Exposure to visualization tools (Tableau, PowerBI, Looker, etc.).
Knowledge of LLM agent development, prompt engineering, and fine-tuning LLMs is a plus.
Excellent communication skills and collaboration with teams.

Data engineering, database engineering, business intelligence, or business analytics experience; ETL tools and large data sets in the cloud.
Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field; 3 years of software engineering experience.
2 years of experience in data engineering, database engineering, business intelligence, or business analytics.
Experience creating inclusive digital experiences and knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standards; familiarity with assistive technologies and accessible product development.
