Overview
The Morphology and Imaging Core of the School of Medicine is looking for a Research Associate to carry out standard operating procedures related to histopathology and imaging of samples from investigators across the LSU Health Sciences Center campus, adjacent academic institutes, and industrial partners. The incumbent will work independently but under the guidance of senior staff. They will assist in technical procedures for various projects within established guidelines and contribute to developing and implementing new procedures for existing and new equipment. Responsibilities include preparing specimens for analysis, compiling histological, molecular, and imaging data, and ensuring general lab upkeep and inventory.
Responsibilities
Processing human and animal tissue specimens for paraffin or frozen sections
Performing histopathology and immunohistochemistry staining of tissue samples
Conducting basic imaging of tissue samples or sections and cell cultures using transmitted, epifluorescence, or stereo-microscopy
Updating databases (sample and material inventory, data entry, data analysis)
Reviewing protocols and providing assistance in developing new ones
Communicating technical aspects of various procedures to students, staff, and faculty
Troubleshooting and maintaining lab equipment
Ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety standards for the laboratory
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education: Bachelor's
Discipline(s): Basic or Health Sciences
Experience: Indicate the minimum number of years required to do the job — RA1: 0-1 years, RA2: 2-3 years
Type of experience: Laboratory experience
Notes: A Master’s degree or PhD may substitute for the experience requirement
