Bachelor’s degree.

Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and stakeholders.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Demonstrated experience creating and using student information software systems: working knowledge of Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, databases, and other desktop software.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience working with university policy and procedures for program requirements and administrative functions; state of Texas procedures and standards for teacher certification

Previous experience in educator preparation, as an educator, or advisor.

Experience in educator preparation, academic advising, or as an educator or educational leader (e.g., teaching or administration).

Job Description

The Certification Officer is responsible for the review and approval of candidates for educator certification at Texas State University in accordance with Texas Education Agency ( TEA / SBEC ) rules and internal Educator Preparation Program ( EPP ) policy. The Certification Officer is also responsible for communicating accurate and timely information to students, faculty, university advisors, and appropriate stakeholders regarding educator certification policies and processes.

Job Duties

Ensure compliance with Texas Education Agency ( TEA / SBEC ) for certification of educators.

Review and make approval decisions for multiple steps in the certification process, including admittance, clinical practice, certification testing, and certification approval.

Prepare individual certification plans for post-baccalaureate students seeking initial teacher certification.

Advise current and prospective post-baccalaureate candidates on eligibility and program requirements.

Provide resources, training, and support to university faculty and staff who advise candidates pursuing teacher certification.

Participate in creating and implementing policies and procedures regarding educator certification.

Assist OEP staff with internal procedures and processes.

Participate in internal and external organizations relevant to educator certification.

Assist with reporting and program evaluation activities.
