Reports to: Business Manager
Hours: 20 hours per week on average
Work location: In-person at NCC’s offices located in Minneapolis, MN
Compensation: $25 per hour
The
Facilities Manager
is a part‑time, hourly, non‑exempt position that ensures Northern Clay Center’s (NCC) spaces and equipment operate safely, efficiently, and in support of our mission to advance the ceramic arts. This role oversees daily building and technology operations—including HVAC, kilns, classrooms, studios, gallery spaces, and AV systems. The Manager handles both preventive maintenance and responsive repairs, working closely with staff, vendors, and contractors to sustain a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for artists, students, visitors, and staff.
The starting hourly rate for this position is $25.00/hour and includes the following benefits:
Paid vacation time equivalent to 48 hours per 12 months
Earn‑as‑you‑work paid safe & sick time
Health insurance via Medica (50% of premium paid by NCC)
A contribution equal to 3% of your earnings to a 403(b) retirement plan
20% discount on most Sales Gallery ceramics
One free class or workshop per quarter classes at NCC

QUILIFICATIONS Required:
Minimum 3 years of experience in facilities, building operations, or related fields.
Strong organizational and project management skills; ability to balance routine maintenance with urgent troubleshooting.
Hands‑on technical ability with building systems.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and perform physical tasks related to maintenance.
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments.
Preferred:
Familiarity with kilns, ceramic studio equipment, or specialized art facility operations.
Vendor/contractor management experience
RESPONSIBILITIES Key Responsibilities
Oversee daily operations of NCC’s facility, including galleries, and office spaces.
Manage the maintenance and repair of building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, security, lighting).
Maintain safety standards across the building, including OSHA compliance, emergency procedures, accessibility, and staff/visitor safety.
Coordinate with external contractors, vendors, and service providers for major repairs and upgrades.
Track and manage facilities‑related budgets, invoices, and capital improvement needs.
Support and train exhibition and events staff with physical setup, lighting, and AV needs.
Develop and monitor active shooter and other safety programs.
Monitor fire extinguishers and first aid kits and ensure they are up to date and well‑stocked.
Monitor and provide support for building security systems, be on‑call for alarm systems.
Operations Support
Maintain administrative oversight, maintenance, and troubleshooting support for NCC’s access control system:
Plan and budget for required/desired additions and retrofit operations.
Maintain alarm call list records with security system provider.
Serve as one of three primary alarm call responders for the organization.
Maintain, troubleshoot, and implement expansion of NCC’s CCTV system and authorized users.
Develop and maintain a calendar of preventative maintenance schedules.
Keep clear documentation of maintenance records and vendor contracts
Provide input into long‑range planning for facility upgrades and technology investments.
Oversee the regular maintenance schedules and needed repairs of the NCC fleet.
Collaborate with staff to plan and implement capital projects related to facilities.
