As we continue to grow, we are seeking a skilled Fractional Accountant to strengthen and optimize our financial infrastructure.

Position Overview The Fractional Accountant will lead efforts to enhance and organize Push for Prosperity’s financial systems to support current and future growth. This role involves developing structured accounting systems in QuickBooks Online, refining grant management processes, ensuring payroll and cost allocations are accurate, and supporting the creation of the future year operating budget. The accountant will play a critical role in ensuring financial clarity, compliance, and efficiency across all programs and departments.

Key Responsibilities System & Structure Development

Develop departmental and divisional accounting structures in QuickBooks Online for improved tracking and reporting.

Establish and document General Ledger (GL) codes aligned with organizational priorities, grant requirements, and program activities.

Review and refine accounting setups for current and upcoming grant programs.

Budgeting & Financial Planning

Develop a comprehensive FY operating budget based on current actuals and projected program growth.

Maintain program-level budgets, monitoring and reporting on actual vs. budget variances.

Play a key role in the annual organizational budgeting process.

Monthly & Ongoing Accounting Support

Review general ledgers monthly to ensure transactions are properly coded by the accounting assistant.

Allocate shared costs to departments and projects monthly.

Record payroll journal entries and other month‑end journal entries as needed.

Prepare and submit monthly reports and related financial documents to funders.

Assist with funder desk audits, ensuring timely and accurate documentation.

Compliance & Reporting

Review payroll allocations for accuracy, compliance, and proper classification.

Support external tax preparers with 990 filings by providing detailed financial documentation and insight.

Maintain accurate records and financial files in compliance with nonprofit and GAAP standards and grant requirements.

Qualifications

Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or equivalent credential preferred not required.

Minimum 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, must be within nonprofit or grant‑funded organizations.

Strong proficiency in

QuickBooks Online , including departmental and project-based accounting.

Demonstrated experience with

grant management ,

budget development , and

financial reporting

for funders.

Knowledge of nonprofit GAAP and compliance standards.

Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.

Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.

Effective communication skills and collaborative approach with cross‑functional teams.

Compensation & Schedule This is a contract‑based fractional role with flexible hours determined by project needs. Compensation is commensurate with experience and scope of engagement.
