Position Overview This is a unique and non-traditional Accounting Manager – Clinical Services role that will be responsible for building a centralized shared service accounting function to support the (currently 8) markets, where all accounting and finance activities are currently locally performed. The goal is to create standardized and efficient accounting processes with stronger internal controls across the managed organization. This role will partner closely with market financial and operational leaders to learn about the current business processes, add value through support and to develop sound and seamless transition plans that minimize business disruption. The Accounting Manager – Clinical Services should have strong project management, leadership and communication skills to execute effectively. Through interacting with the local accounting personnel in each of the markets, this individual will build a team that is both functionally and market / geographically organized.
Once accounting functions are centralized, the Accounting Manager – Clinical Services will be responsible for the traditional month end close functions, such as Accounts Payable, Revenue Cycle Management, Accounts Receivable, Fixed Assets, Prepaids and Accruals, Treasury, etc. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and GAAP accounting standards. The Accounting Manager – Clinical Services will support the team in producing accurate financial statements, reconciling accounts, and streamlining accounting operations. Additionally, this individual will play a key role in developing the critical infrastructure needed for future growth.
Key Responsibilities
General Accounting Management
Lead the month-end close process, including journal entry preparation, reconciliations, and financial statement review (balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow).
Analyze and reconcile all general ledger accounts, ensuring transactions are well-documented and in line with GAAP.
Prepare non-routine journal entries for acquisitions, revenue cycle transactions, and other special projects.
Financial Reporting and Analysis
Work closely with the market finance and operational leaders to assist in preparing the annual budget and periodic forecasting reports.
Conduct variance analysis for budgeted vs. actual financial performance, providing detailed commentary for management review.
Generate and distribute KPIs and financial statements, with deep analysis by practice, department, location, provider, etc.
Facilitate Balance Sheet review at least once a quarter.
Treasury
Serve as an administrator to create needed banking infrastructure and grant necessary access to users.
Assist in managing cash flows including the funding of payroll and other large expenditures.
Payroll Management
Manage payroll accounting, including the preparation and reconciliation of payroll-related journal entries.
Prepare, record, and reconcile payroll-related accruals, such as 401K profit sharing, bonuses, vacation, and other payroll accounts.
Act as the primary contact for all Insperity-related issues and troubleshooting.
Collaborate with HR to onboard new practices, ensuring payroll and benefits systems are aligned with contracts and tax requirements.
Team Leadership
Supervise and mentor a team, ensuring all functions are completed accurately and on time.
Provide continuous feedback, coaching, and training to develop team members’ skills.
Ensure that accounting departments maintain a high standard of operational efficiency and accuracy.
Process Improvement and Automation
Evaluate and streamline accounting processes, leveraging technology to enhance efficiency and reporting accuracy.
Lead automation projects, including enhancing the treasury structure for daily cash reconciliation.
Integrate the treasury platform with SAGE Intacct ERP to automate cash activity tracking.
Leverage the data warehouse to automate business processes, support assumptions, explain financial results and reconcile AR.
Integrations
Lead the integration efforts to onboard newly affiliated practices to our platform of shared accounting services and systems.
Audit and Compliance
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws related to payroll, accounting, and reporting.
Maintain strong internal controls over payroll and accounting processes, preparing for and managing internal and external audits.
Ensure all accounting procedures are up to date with regulatory requirements.
Main point of contact for the annual audits (Financial Statement, Benefit Plan, Worker’s Comp.).
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Experience:
5-7 years of experience in general accounting.
Strong knowledge of GAAP.
Advanced proficiency with data management Microsoft Excel (e.g., VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, Index/Match).
Strong analytical skills, with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications
Certification:
CPA,
Certified Project Manager (PMP)
Multi-site payroll experience is preferred.
Experience in the healthcare sector is a plus but not required.
Proficiency with ERP accounting software SAGE Intacct and BILL.
