Base pay range $135,000.00/yr - $180,000.00/yr
Overview The Sr Principal Electrical Engineer leads and manages hardware aspects of products throughout their lifecycle from architecture, planning, design through verification and validation. Provides electrical-design technical leadership for cross-functional teams in new product development and sustaining engineering projects. Hardware design covers products based on various sensing technologies (e.g., optical, electrochemical) and communication technologies (wired and wireless).
Key Responsibilities
Lead hardware strategic planning, concept generation, architecture definition and translation to system/subsystem/component definitions, with a focus on reliability, safety, and sustainability.
Provide technical leadership to other electrical engineering and project team members.
Expertise in electrical circuit design methodologies that meet high EMC performance requirements.
Develop and write sub-system engineering requirements and rationales that align with customer and system requirements and regulatory standards.
Work closely with Embedded Firmware Engineers to develop and execute strategies for Hardware/Firmware integration and diagnostic coverage.
Develop & implement new or updated electronic designs that meet or exceed all customer, marketing, and regulatory requirements.
Assess impact of changes to existing product electrical components, subcircuits, PCBs, and PCBAs.
Author and lead through to implementation engineering change requests, and engineering & manufacturing change orders.
Complete CAD modeling & simulation, risk analyses (e.g., DFMEA), subsystem requirements capture, schematic capture, board layouts and board mechanical fit analyses.
Develop or support development of test cases and traceability from requirements.
Build and test designs from bench-level to formal verification and validation using in-house setups or external facilities.
Support product quality investigations and root cause analyses.
Follow development processes, lead & document technical reviews, and properly document, test, and control work deliverables.
Provide work breakdown plans and task estimates in support of project estimates and management.
Use Agile methodology for hardware development with clear communication to project stakeholders and progress metrics.
Identify project risks and provide practical proposals to close gaps and mitigate risks.
Participate in roadmap and resource planning and support multiple development programs simultaneously.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering.
15-20+ years of professional work experience.
At least 10 years developing mixed signal PCB/PCBA designs.
Led the hardware development of at least one product from inception through market launch following a structured development process.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree preferred.
FPGA and Analog circuit design experience.
Expertise in electrical circuit design and layout implementation that meet high EMC performance.
Embedded Systems design using MCUs/MPUs connecting to peripheral components providing sensing technologies, communication interfaces, and user interfaces (e.g., displays, touchscreens, LEDs).
Experience with Design for Manufacturability and Design for Test of circuit assemblies.
Platformed product development experience.
Regulated product experience (medical, automotive, Industrial Life Safety, SIL2).
Experienced with FMEAs and developing control techniques to mitigate risks.
Excellent team leadership, communication and organizational skills.
Self-motivated and demonstrated ability to lead process improvement activities.
