Homeless No More works with families that are at-risk or experiencing homelessness through the following strategic initiatives: emergency services (Family Shelter), transitional shelter (St. Lawrence Place), affordable housing (Live Oak), and advocacy. We do this by supporting homeless and at-risk families through services and environments that help maximize their potential and move them toward independent living. Position Summary

The Controller is a key member of Homeless No More’s leadership team, responsible for managing all financial operations, accounting activities, and compliance functions. This position combines hands-on accounting oversight with strategic financial leadership to ensure fiscal accountability, transparency, and sustainability as the organization continues to grow. The Controller will oversee budgeting, reporting, and cash flow management while maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. This position works closely with the CEO, leadership team, Finance Committee, external auditors, and financial partners to strengthen the organization’s financial health and capacity to serve families in need. Responsibilities

Financial Strategy and Oversight

Oversee all accounting and finance functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger management. Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process, providing financial analysis and recommendations for strategic decision-making. Prepare and present bi-weekly cash flow statements and financial updates to the CEO and Finance Committee. Coordinate the annual audit and 990 preparation, serving as the primary liaison with external auditors and CPA (Veris). Develop, implement, and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls. Ensure financial compliance with HUD, SC State Housing, and private/foundation funders. Accounting and Reporting

Prepare and review monthly financial statements, bank reconciliations, and general ledger reconciliations. Produce finance dashboards, grant reports, and special analyses as needed. Maintain accurate tracking and reporting of restricted and unrestricted funds. Prepare and file annual 1099s, 1096s, and other required federal and state filings. Support monthly and year-end closeout processes and board financial reporting. Vendor, Banking, and Contract Management

Serve as point of contact for IT (Levifii), payroll and HR services (PEO), insurance providers (HUB), and banking partners. Manage insurance renewals, claims, and audits. Oversee loan negotiations, banking relationships, and account management. Maintain tax exemptions for all organizational properties, vehicles, and assets. Review financial contracts and ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards. Supervision and Team Leadership

Supervise and mentor Finance Manager (part-time) and Operations Manager (full-time) responsible for daily accounting and property management functions. Oversee handling of accounts payable, receivable, and payroll processes. Foster a collaborative, solution-focused, and high-performing finance team culture. Compliance and Risk Management

Ensure compliance with GAAP standards, nonprofit financial regulations, and internal control policies. File city and county business licenses and maintain up-to-date documentation for all fiscal requirements. Support organization-wide efforts to maintain financial and operational safety for staff and clients. Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (CPA preferred). Minimum five (5) years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, including supervisory responsibilities. Strong understanding of GAAP, nonprofit accounting, and compliance standards. Proficiency in QuickBooks Online, Bill.com, and Microsoft Excel. Demonstrated ability to analyze financial data, prepare accurate reports, and make strategic recommendations. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills. Preferred: Experience in nonprofit or affordable housing finance. Knowledge of HUD, SC State Housing, or other government funding compliance. Proven success in budget management and financial policy development.
